To think Michael Wilshaw is a bit nuts?

Michael Wilshaw, ex-head of Ofsted, has called for teachers to ‘pull together’ in facilitating children returning to school. Which is okay, in and of itself, even if you take issue with the insinuation that teachers haven’t been doing their part. Fine.

Then he goes a step further. Teachers need to show a similar devotion to their jobs as medical professionals, he says, who, in some cases, have “sacrificed their lives” to do their jobs.

Surely this is a sign that SMW has departed from normal thinking? Teachers sign up to educate children. The normal risks of that job do not include death.

As an ex head of Ofsted he will also be an ex teacher.

I assume he will be volunteering to work in a deprived school. He’s an education professional, so therefore should show the same dedication as medical professionals.

YANBU at all, mans a fool.

Teachers will be back on 8th March, we will have a little whinge about it being unsafe. Because frankly it is unsafe. But we will be there doing the best we can to teach our pupils.

He's loathsome. I am an English teacher and I am very good at it. I am not an emergency worker.

I made the mistake of watching the Newsnight interview the morning after it had been on and ended up nearly in tears at his accusation that if we are alive it's because we haven't done enough. Luckily, NEU Mary put him in his place. He's utterly vile and his horrible attitude and the adversarial approach of OFSTED, especially damaging when he was in charge, are so incredibly damaging to the profession.

He's an awful man and he and Gove damaged education and the teaching profession hugely.

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 26/02/2021 21:09

I wish there was a like button Popfan

I think Gove in particular, is the worst thing to happen in education for many many years. Wilshaw isn’t farcbehind.
