Job interview today for my dream job.
Seemed to go well had a great rapport with the panel (albeit virtual) they had no questions on my presentation but said thank you for the amount of work gone into it.
Asked me a few non interview questions after the formal questions about people id worked with before, my volunteer work etc
And asked if I would be wanting to reduce the hours (it’s f/t currently I’m part time)
My gut instinct was I’d done really well much better than I expected but I’ve thought that before and not been right.
But this is such a niche job and my area.
I don’t want to get my hopes and be disappointed but I’ve got a good feeling!
They’d said I’d know by Monda

I'm so sorry OP, I really am. It's so hard when you've put so much into it, you really want it and you thought you've done well.

Remember though that when you think you've done well at an interview, it almost always mean that you have but the job has already been earmarked for someone else.

I hope your time will come soon and there will be no looking back.

Sunbird24 · 01/03/2021 13:41

Sorry to hear you didn’t get the job OP, would it be worth getting in touch with them to ask for feedback on your interview? If you liked the company and there may be other jobs coming up at some point you can always thank them for their time and ask them to keep you in mind for the future.

ChickenSoupForTheHmm · 01/03/2021 13:41

Thanks it did go to an Internal candidate who is very good but I’m sure he doesn’t have lime management experience.
The manager said there would be a job being advertised very soon and would love me on the team. But that will be on 33k and I don’t think Id be better off than my current job taking into account school club costs.

Ah, cross post!

daisychain01 · 01/03/2021 20:51

Even if the current package isn't any better than your present employment, could the new organisation give you more future opportunities? That's something to consider.

Hope things go better next time round.

MrsBobDylan · 01/03/2021 20:58

I bastarding hate it when there is an internal candidate - why do employers not do an internal interview first and save everyone's time?

So sorry op. I hope another job comes up soon, sounds like you are a highly employable candidate, just waiting for the right opportunity.

So sorry op. I hope another job comes up soon, sounds like you are a highly employable candidate, just waiting for the right opportunity.

It tends to be a single campaign where I am, with all CVs considered at the same time and same deadline for applications. It puts people on a level playing field.

Sometimes there are 2+ very strong candidates, but only 1 headcount - it could well be the case in this situation. I also hope the OP will keep trying, it's all good experience.

It isn't always the case that the internal candidate gets the job, if there is a stronger external applicant. I don't have any metrics where I work, but it's quite evenly split between the two. We certainly don't 'earmark' an internal person for a vacancy, but then again we're talking public sector, big employer that does everything by the book. Maybe not always the case in all PS organisations, so I won't generalise. Private sector, again it depends on a company's recruitment policy. In all cases, there should be no discrimination.
