Morning!

So I have been at least 3 stone overweight (obese) for years now. I've been content, lazy and ate far too much crap! I'm 5"2 and look awful.

Last week, I decided to try and change that. I want to be healthier and lose weight. I've tried before but gave up after 2 or 3 days.

This week, I've been doing the 8/16 fast and reduced my calories (not drastically). Cut out the evening snacking and have been drinking LOADS of water. I've also been doing at least 10,000 steps a day - spending some that walking with weights around my garden 😅

I've lost 3lb this week 🙌 I've never really tried before but this week I have and I'm so proud. I know it's only been a week, but for me to stick at something for a week is huge. It's given me a huge boost and now I feel so motivated to carry on and do more!

Sorry - I know AIBU is probably not the most appropriate place for this!

Well done and particularly well done for doing it during a pandemic! Comfort food levels have definitely been going up.
You've every reason to be proud 👏

SparkyMcFucknuts · 25/02/2021 08:47

Massive well done to you! You absolutely should be proud! I hope your focus and dedication continues, and that you continue to be proud of your achievements.

ladygindiva · 25/02/2021 08:49

Yanbu. You should be proud. It's not easy losing weight.

HugeAckmansWife · 25/02/2021 08:53

well done. I am also short with a similar amount to lose and tend to go in fits and starts. That's a great beginning and as you say, nothing too drastic that is unsustainable. When I'm in the right mindset I can do it, porridge with water and berries for breakfast, thins with cream cheese and salad at lunch at stir fry for dinner usually, with bodyweight exercise rather than lots of cardio. I lost 12lb in 6 weeks before xmas but have put about 5 back on since, so its back on the horse today. Keep going - When I'd lost the 12 there were visible differences and jeans fitted that hadn't for a while which is a great motivator.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 25/02/2021 08:53

Very good! Absolutely a reason to be proud

MyNameForToday1980 · 25/02/2021 08:56

Hooray! Yes, be proud.

I did similar in 2019...it was like a revelation, that the calories in/calories out approach really does work. Because I'd never dieted or tried to change, I hadn't anticipated how simple the solution is, or that it'd work for me.

It's hard to stick to, if you have a rough day and eat more or do less, don't give up, tomorrow you just get back on that horse.

someonelockthefridgealready · 25/02/2021 09:00

Well done! You should be proud of yourself Star

picklemewalnuts · 25/02/2021 09:00

Well done! I'm a little further on the journey, but have a lot further to go! I'm 2.5 stone down, but have another 5 or 6 stone to lose.

Keep going. Don't give up because of a bad day or a special occasion- plan them in and work around them. Do what you like on the day, but add an extra fast day in afterwards to make up for it.

And then find a maintenance pattern that works for you.

TwoStepsAhead34 · 25/02/2021 10:03

Absolutely well done you 🏆 🏅 👏

I'm your height, but heavier - I lost over 9lbs on my first week! Literally swapped my portions to more salad/greens/veggies and did 5k steps a day by going out for a walk (I have a sitting job and getting 5k a day in while wfh has been a nightmare).
It's been 7 weeks now. Atm I've not lost or gained anything for 2 weeks now, apparently it's normal. But I feel very disheartened when the scales are showing same numbers. I've lost just under 2 stones..

Defender90 · 25/02/2021 10:08

Well done, I'm really struggling to get started, I had success on the same diet.

partyatthepalace · 25/02/2021 10:09

Congratulations!

You are quite right to be proud!

TooTiredToBeCreative · 25/02/2021 10:12

Congratulations! It’s not easy, I’ve done it once but allowed the weight to creep back on, you’ve just given me the push to clean up my eating!

HardcoreParkour · 25/02/2021 10:14

Well done OP!!!

I'm starting on Monday (isn't everyone 🙈).

It's my first day back to work after maternity leave and with the excess baby weight and pudding pounds from boredom/comfort eating I'm in need of shifting around 2st.

Keep up the good work, it'll all pay off 👍🏼

unmarkedbythat · 25/02/2021 10:15

Yanbu! Well done! I went to put some trousers on this morning that I haven't worn in six months and the cheeky gits wouldn't even do up... I've moped and whinged all the way in to work about it but seeing this post has made me realise I just need to do what you have done and take back control. You're brilliant, OP :)

FilthyforFirth · 25/02/2021 10:19

Well done! This is motivating as I have started intermittent fasting this week too! Only on day 4 but the scales have moved in the right direction. Am hoping the cutting out of snacks helps me. I am ebf and was hoping the weight would come off a bit quicker to be honest!

thelittlestrhino · 25/02/2021 10:30

Be very proud, and please don't worry if the weight loss stalls at times in the next few weeks. It is normal to lose more at first, but then the rate of loss drops off a bit. Keep on ploughing through!

TVDFan · 25/02/2021 12:21

Thanks everyone for your kind words ♥️

It's great to hear everyone's stories!

If I can start then honestly anyone can. I am the laziest person I know. I spent most of the day on the sofa barely doing 1000 steps a day. I ate huge portions and would eats crisps and chocolate every night. Take aways twice a week!

Its hard but so long as I'm drinking water, I don't really feel hunger. I'm craving take away food and chocolate late at night but I know that'll soon fade as it's probably withdrawals atm 😅

Skinnydecafflatte · 25/02/2021 12:27

Well done @TVDFan toure doing brilliantly and you sound a lot like me. I started about 5 weeks ago doing this and am a stone down so far. I’m a bit taller 5ft 5 and have 3-3.5 stone to lose.

Come and join us in the diet section of 16:8 support group 2021 (or something like that!)

You can do this!

takingmytimeonmyride · 25/02/2021 12:31

Well done! I'm also 3 stone overweight and 5ft 1. I started the 16:8 a couple of weeks ago and lost 2lb the first week. Stayed the same this week, but my period has just started after a 40 day cycle Angry I'm also trying to do 70,000 steps a week (so it doesn't matter if I don't make 10,000 one day, I can do more the next)

I'm finding it quite easy. A lot easier than other diets I've been on.

TVDFan · 25/02/2021 14:50

@Skinnydecafflatte

I've just joined the thread! Thank you!! Grin

Fembot123 · 25/02/2021 14:52

Well done 👏

FuckyouCovid21 · 25/02/2021 14:56

Well done OP, keep it up....or down Grin

NellePorter · 25/02/2021 15:27

YANBU to be proud, well done, it's really hard to lose weight! The benefits will be so worth it. Keep going, even if the scales don't always show a loss, there are all kinds of reasons why we don't lose weight every single week, but you will find there's a catch-up. Also, in the past I have let slip-ups completely spoil things ... if you have any, just recognise that you're human, you've done brilliantly so far, and get back on it the next day Smile

TVDFan · 25/02/2021 22:28

Thanks the encouragement 💪

@NellePorter - That's been my problem in the past. I mess up once and think fuck it, what's the point now?!

But I think this time is different, I seem to have a different mentality 🤞
