Quick question re WhatsApp notifications

Technophobe here...if I turn off notifications, can I still retrieve all those messages later when I turn notifications back on? Don’t want to miss out on conversations but don’t want my phone buzzing when working and I need it switched on to receive incoming calls. Thanks

Yepp they’ll still be there when you open the app

You'll still get all the messages just won't get all the pings! I've turned all mine off for work as they go off continuously from 8am up to 8/9pm. I just now check messages every couple of hours. Chats will stay there until you delete them.

Yes of course. Message are still arriving, you’re just not switching the sound on. The red number (or similar- I have an iPhone) will still appear. It’s how most people I know have their phones set these days. Hardly anyone gets noisy alerts.

Thanks, even if I put it on silent, it still buzzes so I’m planning to turn off the notifications in settings and just wanted to check I can sill catch up on conversations later

You'll not miss any messages, you just won't have any buzzing (win win).

You can mute individuals/groups individually so some can remain on. If you click the 3 dots in top right in a chat you can mute notifications for that chat only.

Yes, correct. All messages will still be there even if you just mute individual groups. Just no pinging.

You don't even have to unmute the groups, you can just read the messages. (And unmuting would be bad as you might get disturbed by pings in the night! Although your phone will have a Do Not Disturb feature which is really handy. )

Most of my groups are permanently muted.
If I look at my phone I can see how many new messages there are and choose whether to read or not.
