As far as I can tell Boris said in his announcements that things wouldn't happen until at least and would be based on evidence at the time.

So how has the BBC of all places reported this? Social contact limits over by 12 June etc.

I despair.

Or www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-56158405

It's the difference between saying x will happen on a set date. Like we will have a party on 10th August.
And saying something won't happen before a date. Eg you knee operation won't happen before 10th July

But it doesn't say that

foodiefil · 22/02/2021 21:41

"Would start"
"Hopes that"

foodiefil · 22/02/2021 21:42

"A new four-step plan to ease England's lockdown could see all legal limits on social contact lifted by 21 June, if strict conditions are met."

That's entirely accurate.

Have you read something else?

Retrievemysanity · 22/02/2021 21:44

It says ‘earliest possible date’ which is what Boris said.

VladmirsPoutine · 22/02/2021 21:45

The BBC are indeed in the mouthpiece of the government but that isn't illustrated by this particular article.

Userg1234 · 22/02/2021 22:18

I think the BBC news website is very much heated into getting the story out as quick as possible. Then edit/correct as they go along.

ghostyslovesheets · 22/02/2021 22:18

It doesn’t say what you are implying

VestaTilley · 22/02/2021 23:29

YANBU. The bbc news website has been dreadful for a few years no- endless coverage of that misogynistic Drag Race programme, loads of non-stories and opinion pieces.

All I want is the news!!

adventurealice · 22/02/2021 23:41

No one in journalism seems to know what “by” means anymore. A few places have said “by June 21 at the earliest”.. yet “by” means on or before!
