Window Restrictors. Can’t remove them. Argh!

I’m hoping I’m not BU to ask this.
Does anyone know how the Jeff these flipping window restrictors work?

DH and I want to redecorate the spare room. Our bedrooms have these restrictors on the windows (the black bit in the hinge in the photo) and we just cannot work out how to open or remove them for ventilation.

The property is about 10 years old. The previous owner left us these Securistay keys but I can’t work out if they are the right key for these.
I’ve scoured the internet to no avail and it’s driving me batshit.

Please help, wise people of Mumsnet!

complete guess:
if you twist the silver screws at the top and bottom of the black area to the left by about 90 degrees with the "key" they've left, does it do anything??

FlibbertyGiblets · 22/02/2021 16:40

@PigletJohn might be able to help.

extentioncord · 22/02/2021 16:44

Push the black thing up?

Fridaytomorrow · 22/02/2021 16:46

Some of my rooms have restrictors on the windows. They also have black buttons on the frame.

You need to press the button in at the same time as opening the window, and that will take you past the restrictor.

Hmm. Thanks for the suggestions.

@PussyCatInChristmasStockings I can't get the key thing under the screws
And @extentioncord I've tried pushing the black bit up and nothing is budging.
@Fridaytomorrow unfortunately there is no button.

They are driving me nuts.

He should be able to help he's MNs version of Yoda

Fluffyandsilly · 22/02/2021 17:39

I'll go for the wine until @PigletJohn has a gander!
I'll try to restrain myself from bashing them with the hammer when I've had a couple of glasses of the wine.

Is there a name on the window, if so google that and the name of the key thing and see if anything helpful comes up.

Fluffyandsilly · 22/02/2021 17:51

OOOOOH @wifterwafter I think you are on to something. I've just craned my neck to have a look and the silver bit has this written on it. Partially covered by the black bit
A/S SPILKA INDUST...
NORWA...

It looks like one of these: www.spilka.com/en/solutions/spilka-classic/accessories/

Oh my god! I've just done it.

Emboldened by identifying what they are, I used the rubber end of the hammer and some elbow grease and managed to push the black bit up on the window in the spare room! The window then fully opens.
I'd been looking at the one in our room previously & I reckon it's just a bit stuck from not being used for 10 years.

Is now a good time to admit that we've lived here over two years and not been able to work it out? The key was a red herring.

Stand down PigletJohn. And thanks very much everyone else. I feel quite sheepish.

Well done OP. You can now drink the Wine and put the hammer down.
Grin

PigletJohn · 22/02/2021 18:12

sorry I don't know that one.

It might be that the black thing retains a peg on the hinge with a peg on the frame and has to be lifted off the peg, but I don't see how.

Are any of your other windows (e.g. downstairs or in the bathroom) unrestricted? You may be able to see what the difference is.

Or, befriend a neighbour with similar windows and ask them.

Have a look at www.aldridgesecurity.co.uk/era-0084-era-720-securistay-window-restrictor-wood.html

Google suggests Yale/Assa Abloy but it looks different.

When you know the maker, you can probably track down instructions, either online or by asking the maker.

PigletJohn · 22/02/2021 19:46

oh, you've done it.

well done!

Fluffyandsilly · 22/02/2021 20:09

Yes! Done it, but thanks so much anyway @PigletJohn
In my defence they were very, very stiff as I don’t think they’d been opened in 10 years Smile

try lubricating the other ones....?? get them to shift easier.

FlibbertyGiblets · 22/02/2021 21:05

Hurray! We'll done you!

Stand down PJ!

Fluffyandsilly · 22/02/2021 22:40

I’ve whacked some WD40 on them all and they are all working now. Hurrah!
