Idea for helping to community

I was inspired earlier by a thread that was about the price of children’s shoes. As somebody who isn’t a parent I had no idea of this and it is really no shock that so many families cannot afford what every child should be entitled to.

This led me to think, I am in a very fortunate position and I would like to start giving back. For me, charity starts at home and I was unsure of whether this already existed at a concept, a quick google leads me to believe it does not:

A scheme where you can help a family in your local community by assisting with their shopping, school clothes, food bills etc etc.

I don’t mean this to come across in any negative or patronising way. I’m unsure if this type of scheme doesn’t exist in order to protect privacy of families but I would love to help financially with money and advice. (I work in finance)

Is anybody aware of a similar scheme or is this just a ridiculous idea?

I’m obviously aware of food banks etc, but I would love it to be more personal (if possible)

There have been lots of mini communities set up on places like Facebook which have helped with food distribution, checking elderly people etc.

They might be a good place to start with being able to suggest people who could benefit.

Ah thank you @CoRhona. I don’t have Facebook but I shall borrow my partners’s account and have a look to see what I can find!

Maybe ask at your local Home Start? They may be willing to discuss ways that you could help.
