"I'm pretty sure I know the ones that will" - Facebook manipulation

Is it just me, or are people who ask you to share their heartstring-pulling viral Facebook posts with the words "I'm pretty sure I know the ones that will" sinking to a new manipulative low? These posts are often about serious issues of concern, such as mental health and bereavement, but I'm convinced many of them are started by unscrupulous analytics companies identifying target markets for advertising.

I absolutely hates those kind of posts, they come across as really 'sneery ' if you know what I mean. I ignore them and never repost them.
Same with the gifs or videos I get sent on messenger and told to pass on.

Notanotherhun · 20/02/2021 18:12

People still use Facebook?

IsolaPribby · 20/02/2021 18:14

These are a real pet hate of mine. I refuse to share these on. I am always tempted to post well you I won't then, but in the end I just ignore and scroll on by.

But I may secretly judge those who do share them.....

SmidgenofaPigeon · 20/02/2021 18:15

A very loosely acquainted family member shared things like

We need to find a cure for cancer! Share if you agree!’

‘Rapists should be in prison. Share if you agree!’

So aggressive and unnecessary. Also just assume that most decent people agree on both those points without plastering it across their social media....

DNAwrangler · 20/02/2021 18:15

I don’t share them, and take it as a complement that they know I won’t fall for their guilt tripping bollocks Grin

sleepyhead · 20/02/2021 18:15

They're all just copy paste jobs aren't they? Facebook version of a chain letter.

Surely most people just ignore them. I doubt the poster even reads the words properly, just dutifully copy pastes them on to their feed.

So YANBU, they're a load of shite, but YABU if you think your friend has some mental list of people they know will reply.

XenoBitch · 20/02/2021 18:16

I hate them too, and never share them.

KitchenFairy · 20/02/2021 18:18

I only ever see these posts shared by people who are as thick as pig shit.

MargaretThursday · 20/02/2021 18:19

Tbf I would think anyone on my fb will know that I absolutely won't share anything like that as I never do.

biddybird · 20/02/2021 18:19

My elderly aunt is always posting these. I ignore them but realise she has been guilted into sharing them herself, so I'm not annoyed with her.

lanbro · 20/02/2021 18:20

Share if you love your daughter...um, nope, that should be a given

Kettle on, here if you need me, blah blah...always shared by the nastiest, most selfish people who you would never turn to

Mankyfruitbowl · 20/02/2021 18:22

I find these hilarious! If they are so sure they know who will share, why don't they delete all the other unfeeling bastards in advance?

CatRamsey · 20/02/2021 18:23

I hate these. The worst are the suicide awareness ones when they say they're 'there for you if you ever feel this way.' But when you do feel that way they couldn't give a shit... It's all just words to make themselves look good (even if it really just makes most of us judge them haha)

dementedpixie · 20/02/2021 18:23

I just ignore them

2typesofjungle · 20/02/2021 18:23

I find these kind of posts helpful, they are a useful indicator of people to remove from my friend list, and likely my life.
Don't feel manipulated by their stupidity.

LindaEllen · 20/02/2021 18:25

I mean, they're only copy and paste jobs, so you needn't worry that it's an individual being funny with you.

murbblurb · 20/02/2021 18:25

They are indeed chain letters, and indicate a playground mentality. Ignore.

Yes, many of use Facebook to keep in touch with friends, run charities, help each other locally. Instagram is for the gormless attention seekers. Twitter for complaining at companies.

Topseyt · 20/02/2021 18:26

I pay these sort of posts no attention at all. Manipulative bullshit.

Butterfly44 · 20/02/2021 18:29

I ignore and scroll on

Bluntasduck · 20/02/2021 18:31

I hate them. Even if they are about something I really care about I won't share them because of that manipulative shaming nonsense

BettyBoomerang · 20/02/2021 18:31

It's just a copy and paste thing, and I don't care if they think anything based on me not sharing their post. I never, ever do. Or donate to their charities.

GeordieGreigsButtButtZoom · 20/02/2021 18:33

Just ignore them. They're not going to confront you about it. If they do, say you didn't see it, or you find them manipulative, or you disagree, you think illnesses etc are fantastic.

I muted the people who do this ages ago.

slashlover · 20/02/2021 18:42

@Notanotherhun

People still use Facebook?
As of January 2021, there were over 50 million Facebook users in the UK, up from 39.01 million in September 2018, according to napoleoncat.com.
DartmoorChef · 20/02/2021 18:45

I just ignore and scroll. If someone does nothing else but post that sort of shite then I unfollow..

lazylump72 · 20/02/2021 18:45

I always am surprised when I read I think I know who will...why do they then take the hump when you wont?Surely if they know who will share equally they know who won;t so whats the issue?
I am a ignore and won;t person.Havent done it before Lisa so why be surprised I am not doing it now?! Fuck off with you exceptional talent of being a childish cow with an affinity to copy and paste,
