Why do companies do this!!!

So the PlayStation 5 got released in November. Very limited stock and like gold dust to get hold of. I understand this for the first drop as it builds the hype around the product and the exclusivity. However, the second drop has came around today, 3 months after the original release, and all retailers where again sold out in minutes. They are basically impossible to get your hands on.

Surely Sony knew that the second drop would be so popular as so many people didn't get one first time around. So why haven't they produced more units? I just don't understand it from a business point of view as surely now at 3 months past original release, you would want as many units out there as possible?

I just don't understand, people will get bored eventually and stick to what they've got, rather than bothering with the rush of trying to get one.

What is the point in bringing a product out that hardly anyone can get access to??? It puts a bad name on the company in my opinion and doesn't scream 'exclusivity', it screams 'the company is incompetent in producing units' to me.

AIBU or has the rage of refreshing Very for the past god knows how many hours got to me 😩😩😩

There’s a massive chip shortage which is affecting production and therefore supply of many electronic devices, I imagine PlayStation are as frustrated as would-be buyers

The issue I think with it being so popular the first time round is that people are buying them up to sell on, rather than creating more units this needs addressing as well. It should be limited to one per household.

There must be a way to do this, maybe people could register and be given a one time code to enter when buying. There's so so many people buying them to sell on at ridiculous prices.

Register on stock informer and you’ll get an update when there’s some in stock somewhere

I was following the hashtags on Twitter to see when Very where releasing as they kept very hush about it. People were saying that bots where buying them all within seconds of release.

It's crazy that that is even allowed! I thought you needed to be human to make a purchase! Would love to know how these people manage to set up these bots!

I dont think it's entirely deliberate. I'm sure they'd rather have had enough to meet the Christmas demand.

Acquaintance of a friend has had 3 up for sale because he apparently bought one himself, then was given one as a gift, then won 2. 🤔

Ahhh this makes sense now! I feel abit better knowing that Sony weren't just being arses and holding all the stock back to create a hypeGrin
