Exams at work

My boss is causing me great stress and anxiety by issuing exam tests that he makes up.
He asks things in confusing ways on purpose.
In this latest exam he provided silent installation demos as a form of training to be tested on which seems obsurd.
He makes me and others do these made up exams over again after receiving results over 80 and 90 percent .
First exam efore lockdown I did 2 times and the second wasnt even marked . This was a 2 hour exam based on no official training at all. I got 78 percent first time around no idea what I got after that but the majority of what I got wrong was based on codes he asked me to provide from a company book and I also put in a dash into each code as that's how it is displayed and the computer system takes the code with or without the dash so really this is picky and not relevant really as the only thing I'm using the code with is cad software which accepts both and produces the correct quote and if you dont include the dash it adds it in anyway..

Second exam I got 83% after waiting 8 days and was asked to re do , which I did and I was told what I got right , no new mark and asked to re do a 3rd time.
On the first test I did he actually realised some of His notes were wrong and he had marked me down on questions about particular sizes I got right that he thought were wrong so really i did much better.
This Friday past i received an email from him notifying us all he has made up an new exam which we will all get timed on which will be tuesday and last 2 hours . Remotely done at home
We are on furlough on 80%pay and training is good and valid but these made up exams cause so much anxiety and stress it is very upsetting .
Is it normal to be asked to do exams at work , on or off furlough as I have done both, which are not official , wont lead to a different job role or pay raise and just serve to cause unnecessary stress and anxiety?

Yes you can be asked to do training whilst on furlough.

Yes firms are allowed to continually assess your knowledge if relevant to the job you are doing.

However, if you believe the material factually incorrect you should be able to let him know that.

That sounds awful. Your boss sounds like a joy. Sadly it does seem to be covered as allowed training. It's completely unnecessary to be so arsey about it though. Can you speak to him about it or HR?

Hi yes I an aware and happy to do training . It's the doing made up exams repeatedly I find stressful and not getting a mark at all sometimes and being picked on for seriously petty things. I have worked in this same retail diy design store environment many times over decades and never experienced having to do made up exams and working now for a franchise and I know the other franchisees do not do these tests or exams they just do training .
It's hard to explain but some things are written on purpose in a confusing way just to be awkward. I guess you would have to experience yourself to understand the nature of this person .
13 members of staff have left this very small.company in the space of 4 and a half years due to this persons antics and the mental stress caused.

What on earth is the point of them?! I think I’d have to ask him why I was being made to do exams made up by him that aren’t even clearly written. Sounds like they are for his own weird enjoyment!

Hi , 🙈 HR would be his wife and she is just as bad as he is. He told me he has been referred to as Hitler before and he seemed really pleased to tell me that like he enjoys being controlling and can be really nasty at times .
Talking to him about it would just make him be worse

I think it makes him feel good to make us feel.shit and boosts his ego. He made the exams so obviously he would get 100percent .
Thing is above 80 is not a bad mark and it just feels like your not good enough, must try.harder blah blah ..makes you feel.really low to be asked to.re.do over and over
