Tablet as a suppository?

Possible TMI alert !

Aibu to use an ordinary ibuprofen tablet ahem, rectally?

I have run out of my normal suppositories. I mean if they can go into your stomach then why not this way, with a bit of Vaseline? Can't seem to get any info by googling though.

Worried about irritation. I do have some ibuprofen liquid too.

Bad idea right??

Don’t do this. They’re not designed for rectal use. Won’t dissolve in the same way 🤦‍♀️

Babyroobs · 14/02/2021 17:25

Yes bad idea.

Toddlerteaplease · 14/02/2021 17:26

Yep won't work at all!

Toddlerteaplease · 14/02/2021 17:27

It won't dissolve, and is the wrong shape and won't stay in.

Pinkblueberry · 14/02/2021 17:29

Can't seem to get any info by googling though.

Google is usually able to answer even the most stupidest of questions... looks like you’ve hit a new depth of silliness that even Google can’t deal with.

Shock I have no idea what the implications of this might be but I wouldn't mess around with meds.
Ring your local pharmacist and ask them if they can help you find an alternative.

OneFootintheRave · 14/02/2021 17:38

@Daisy95 yeah, they are normally in a waxy, smooth bulb. The tablets are powdery. Sigh, the suppository form is v difficult to get round here but in some European countries they are the preferred form.

Just been out with the dog and feel a bit better anyway.

Why can’t you just swallow them?

BaggoMcoys · 14/02/2021 17:41

If you can't swallow tablets and can't get hold of suppositories, would you be able to take soluble paracetamol or aspirin instead?

Schoolchoicesucks · 14/02/2021 18:04

Is there a reason you can't take it orally?

steff13 · 14/02/2021 18:06

Why would you not just take them orally?

Riapia · 14/02/2021 18:47

OP can’t take them orally she just found out they won’t stay up her arse.

NeverDropYourMoonCup · 14/02/2021 18:47

@steff13

Why would you not just take them orally?
NSAID induced gastritis?

Before I became allergic to the things, 2 days following the instructions and I'd be so sick, I preferred to be in pain.

Never had a problem getting the preferred format prescribed, though - got a few 'really? That's unusual' from GPs, but they were always in stock at the pharmacies.

littlepattilou · 14/02/2021 18:48

@OneFootintheRave Why the FUCK would you do this? Confused
