To miss the U.K. so much?

SickoftheCword · 13/02/2021 10:02

I live in another country in Europe and feeling so homesick for England at the moment. Not sure if the current situation is having an impact and making me think of the past more and happier times.
Aibu to want to move back to the U.K. and to miss it.

You don’t say where you are but trust me it’s not that great over here right now, but I doubt anywhere in Europe is doing well with the current situation.

Is moving back to the UK an option? Do you have a partner and/or children to think about?

Doubt too many people in the UK would describe themselves as being "happy" right so the UK you remember is not the one we are (temporarily) living in.

Are you somewhere hot and sunny?

SickoftheCword · 13/02/2021 11:16

@Butchyrestingface It’s hot and sunny in summer, which is lovely, but isn’t everything 🤷🏻‍♀️Our vaccine rollout programme is much much slower than the U.K., so I’m guessing things will take longer to get back to ‘Normal’

It’s absolutely fffreezing here right now , snow can’t make its mind up , Boris can’t make his mind up either ... miss the UK ? I would stay away right now lol

SickoftheCword · 13/02/2021 11:19

@EnjoyingTheSilence Yes, Dp would rather stay here, but Dd will be of school age in a couple of years, that’s another thing to think about, educationally.

It’s difficult to say as o would love to leave the uk right now! Weathers shit, government shit, covid shit but I know the grass is greener.

Is this a blip or have you been feeling this a long time. When we are able to travel again, is coming back to the uk for visits going to be enough for you? What is you miss about the uk?

There’s so many things to consider and I think you need an honest conversation with your do about the future.

peak2021 · 13/02/2021 16:39

I can understand being homesick, but how long have you not been out of the UK?

What do you miss about the UK? Is it just the vaccine programme? Honestly, nothing else is good news here at the moment.

Callixte · 13/02/2021 19:20

Sorry, pls disregard the above - replied to the wrong post!! Reported.

arethereanyleftatall · 13/02/2021 19:21

Yanbu, I've lived in numerous other places in the world and am always desperate to come home. I love the uk.

Professionalplayingcards · 13/02/2021 19:22

The vaccine is pretty fantastic good news though if you live in a country miles behind, I get that totally.

RunningFromInsanity · 13/02/2021 19:38

YANBU

I love the U.K.
I’m pretty satisfied with how things are going re COVID, yes the lockdown should have been done sooner and stricter but every country is approaching it differently.
The vaccination scheme is going extremely well.

We had a really hot Summer and a snowy Winter which was nice.

Laila747 · 13/02/2021 19:43

I’m with you OP. I lived abroad for 5 years and missed everything about the UK. Even when I’ve been on holiday and loved every minute, I get a rush of happiness when I see the green fields of home as we come in to land.
If you feel like this now, then make steps to try and come back before your DC are school age.
I know that’s probably far easier said than done. Hugs x

WoolieLiberal · 13/02/2021 19:55

Having travelled all around the world over the years, I would say that spite of everything, you could do far far worse than the U.K.

mbosnz · 13/02/2021 19:57

I understand the homesickness, I'm in the UK, far, far, from home, and missing home like crazy.

T'aint no place like home. Where ever home may be for a body.

Acrasia · 13/02/2021 20:00

I’m feeling a bit homesick too, but it’s just because I haven’t seen my Mum or friends since the end of 2019, and I have no idea when I will see them next. I don’t want to move back to the UK because I am happy with my life here, it’s just really hard not even being able to visit right now.

PersonaNonGarter · 13/02/2021 20:05

YANBU

I love living in the UK and would miss it if I wasn’t.

OhWhyNot · 13/02/2021 20:06

Being homesick is an awful feeling

I lived in Australia for 18 months I often felt homesick and little things would remind me of home and i would start crying. I then went travelling and my last week (nearly two years away) I was on a beautiful tropical island weather was amazing, lovely hotel but the only place I wanted to be was home the thought of rainy grey London was heaven to me (even tried to sell my ticket to get an earlier flight)

It’s a deep longing for the familiar of family friends, foods, smells, places, weather

I hope things improve and you can come back even if it’s just to visit very soon

DavidsSchitt · 13/02/2021 20:36

YANBU to feel how you feel but honestly...it's pretty dismal here at the moment.

The vaccine programme is good but I'm sitting reading posts of people getting theirs before me when I seem to have more need (heart condition). That's worrying and there's not much I can do but wait it out. Boring and cold 🥶

lastqueenofscotland · 13/02/2021 20:38

I lived abroad (east Asia so massive culture shift) for a bit. I really missed baked beans and marmite Grin

StoneofDestiny · 13/02/2021 20:42

It's not an option to move here at the moment so just enjoy where you are. Right now the country is run by an idiot, we are in lockdown, it's cold and we are in the middle of a pandemic - not much to miss.

borageforager · 13/02/2021 20:42

I would love to be somewhere else - just feels like everything is going to hell in a handcart in the UK at the moment.

But I know homesickness isn’t logical. We moved back to the U.K. from overseas because it’s ‘home’...

StevieNicksIsMySpiritAnimal · 13/02/2021 20:55

Of course it's cold in the UK - it's winter!

DavidsSchitt · 13/02/2021 21:11

Well yes, but usually we can escape that cold! I'd be in the canaries for half term in normal times. Not here freezing my tits off
