Looking for some advice... my son is 18 months old and goes for a morning nap about half 11/12 but then tends to fall asleep about between 5 and 6 in the evening then stays up late at night 😵 just wondering how to cut out the evening nap as im trying to get him used to sleeping in his own room and cot....any advice would be greatly appreciated 👍😁

I would just not let him nap and then do an early bedtime. DD is 15months and has a nap 10-12 and then goes to bed between 6/6.30

Give him a nap after lunch.

I agree with PP about an earlier bedtime and just try and get your DC to 6.30pm ish. My DS's bedtime has fluctuated a lot to account for nap changes.

soundofsilence1 · 13/02/2021 09:58

My 14 month old naps at 8.30 to 9.30 and then after lunch 1pm ish. He sleeps 6pm to 5.30am ish.

When he gets a bit older we will drop the first nap and just have one after lunch.

Push his morning nap back until after lunch. From about 12 months all of mine had one nap at 12.30, after they’d had their lunch. Then bed at 7ish.

GAW19 · 13/02/2021 10:13

My 18month old sleeps from 8pm-8:30am.
I would say 2 out of 7 days she will have a nap during the day. If she does it's always about 1:30ish for an hour or so.
Bedtime routine is always a really good thing, we eat around 5ish, then bath, play downstairs then milk and bed x

Yes, try moving nap later, to around 1pm.
Take him to a playground earlier, somewhere where he won't fall asleep. Worth a try.

Ornamentalcabbages · 13/02/2021 14:27

Ours had one nap after lunch for ~90min, then bedtime at 7pm, at that age, so I'd suggest pushing their one nap later than what you currently have it set at

At 18 months our DD slept roughly 10-11am and then 3-4pm. She then slept 7.30-7ish overnight. I think she only had one nap of between 1 and 2hrs at nursery 3 days a week but the other 4 days she would have two 1hr naps. We would wake her after an hr if she hadn't woke up herself otherwise she'd sleep too long in the morning and then wouldn't have her PM nap which would lead to overtiredness and her trying to sleep at 5 or 6. And likewise if she slept past 4 it would cause problems with bed time.
