Gcse summer resit

Ds was going to resit eng lit this summer as he left school last year with bad grades. No exams but school wont accept work to be graded as he's now external. I know school has a really tough job at the moment but his college place depends on it. He worked really hard and passed his english and maths resits in nov. Im sure others are in this situation but i feel he is totally stuffed

Don't panic yet. The full details of the consultation as to how we can predict grades has not come out yet so no one knows.

Last year we couldn't do external entries however this year he may be able to use work / a tutor may be able to give a grade.

What is he doing right now? Would his current college be able to enter him?

Also - why does he need English Lit if he already has his English?

As Sd said, he may be able to be assessed as a private candidate. It’s not clear how that is going to work yet. We should know more in the next couple of weeks. Would he consider switching to iGCSE? There’s a possibility that there may still be an exam option for them.

I thought that the English Language grade was more important. Why does he need English Literature?

Can you explain more about what he has been doing this year, and how his college place can depend on English Lit?

The college DD is due to attend has said they will be more flexible than usual on course requirements, have you contacted college to see what the situation will be if he can't be given a grade?

Have you asked the exam board.

Why didn't he do the exams in October?

There may be with an issue with coursework. If he needs to submit that as part of the assessment the school will have to verify that it is his own work. they can do that with all those on school as they can do coursework in school under controlled conditions.

We don't know how assessments will happen and the announcement isn't due until the w/c 22nd February.
Unfortunately private candidates were completely forgotten about last time. Time will tell.

Not in schools in the U.K. but they are still going ahead in other countries. There’s a possibility that there might be an option for private candidates to sit them in the U.K.
