To complain to Sainsbury’s about their Valentine’s balloons?

I was blowing one up when it popped right in my face - forehead and cheeks now extremely painful, red and swollen. I wear glasses, so I don’t know if that had a protective impact, but I could have sustained a corneal abrasion or some eye injury... very scary to think about.

And it was still relatively small when it popped - hardly overinflated. I’ve never had this happen before either.

AIBU to complain about these bastard objects?

So far we are stupid, nasty, small minded, bullies, lacking comprehension

Some of you general you (remember that one right?) are in my opinion, nasty, small minded bullies who are lacking in comprehension. Yes. I think it's generally understood that people who like to bully others often have one or more of those attributes.

Whatamesssss · 13/02/2021 13:57

@BalloonTrauma

I would do the gradual exposure and let her handle balloons before they are blown up. She probably just doesn't like the sudden loud noise of it popping, or maybe she is reacting to your fear.

I don't think her birthday is a good time to test it though.

There are lots of resources online, google is your friend.

Bit patronising. Hmm

"You (general you) are laughing at the fact that the op has had a balloon explode in her face which has damaged her skin, and berating her for the fact she hasn't read the non existent instructions. And for the small minded people here, that is somehow funny. Absolutely. bloody. Hilarious. hmm Go you. It's intriguing (not in a good way) to see just how repulsive and spiteful some people truly are."

I'm laughing because none of this actually happened.

Freshair85 · 13/02/2021 14:01

@Zevia

Be careful pursuing this. Could blow up in your face.

And you know this because....?

Bluntness100 · 13/02/2021 14:02

Well this is all very dramatic.

Do you ehrm, take photos of your ballon injured red swollen face op? Can you show us please?

Don't go onto any of the classic threads. You'd have a ball with all the people laughing, but with all the threads needing a moral crusader...

You'd never get out again

Did I? Feel free to post it again if I missed it.

That's exactly what we did, for months. She was pretty much fine with them when she last saw one a few months ago...

Suspect your idea and my idea of having a ball may be quite different.

Mrgrinch · 13/02/2021 14:07

If your child was already scared of balloons why did you even buy them?

You are clearly enjoying your role here of moral guardian.

But you are quite right , what with me being small minded and stupid and with no comprehension and all.

I draw the line at finger painting, I imagine a night discussing the works of Socrates is more your thing.

Sparklingbrook · 13/02/2021 14:08

Moving on from the 'Mumsnetters are all horrible meanies' whining etc @BalloonTrauma what are you actually going to do now?

Take it up with Ginger Ray? Or Sainsburys?

OK, but if it did actually happen you wouldn't be laughing? Or you think what I describe is an impossible occurence?

How do you know that it did?

I don't. But I generally take the ops posts at face value and assume they did happen, rather than laugh at them and mock them by assuming it didn't. I guess it's easier to be unpleasant to people though if you take the assumption that they're lying in the first place.

Sparklingbrook · 13/02/2021 14:11

That's a dangerous strategy on MN lately.

TBF, a night watching paint dry might be more fulfilling than a night with some of you. (General you)

How mean of you Sparkling.

All posts must be taken at face value, with a straight face and serious advice, and no laughing is allowed, even if the wording is ridiculous. At all. Ever.

Not being an gullible idiot =/= being unpleasant.

Remember that recent thread asking why people bother posting troll threads? This thread is a classic example of why. It's a sport now to see who can post the most ridiculous story that posters will white knight for.
