I am a FTM I really need your help regarding how many of each size clothing I need for baby due at the end of June.

I’m going to get newborn clothes nearer to due date just in case my baby is a big en like her dad and I will get just a few in NB size as I know they grow ever so fast.

How much of each size will I need?

Sorry I meant to put I’m getting the NB size nearer to due date just in case if I have to take them back due to baby being too small and would need size 0-3

My baby was born beginning of July, 8lb 13oz and quite long and she still fit into newborn for about a month, then we moved to 0-3. Hope that helps x

I would just get size 0-3, it doesn't matter if they are a bit big. You probably need maybe 10 vests, 10 baby grows , a couple of cardigans, 2 hats? Maybe a few bibs?
Don't get it too soon though, people may well give you so much you won't need anything. We didn't need to buy any clothes till she was one! It was a case of trying to get every item worn at least once before it was grown out of.
Plus it's easy to buy in supermarkets so no need to plan ahead too much

Goldenbear · 11/02/2021 15:28

My first born was born around the end of June and wasn't in newborn clothes for very long, he was over 8lbs though, I would mostly go for 0-3 stuff.

CoffeeRunner · 11/02/2021 15:31

My babies were 7lb, 7lb 7oz & 6lb 14oz. All were in newborn size for roughly a month to 6 weeks. I would recommend only buying vests & sleep suits for a newborn though.

They really don’t need to be dressed up at that age & fancy outfits really aren’t that practical.

Whywonttheyhelpme · 11/02/2021 15:32

I found that lots of other people bought 0-3 size once baby was born.

For the initial stage we bought around 10 babygrows, 10 vests, scratch mits, 2 hats, lots of muslins, bibs & numerous blankets- all in white.
We didn’t find out what sex our babies were but the other bonus of sticking to neutrals is they all go in one wash together. If you have to start messing around with a dark wash, coloured wash, light wash you will be absolutely exhausted and run out of clothes very quickly.

Feetupteashot · 11/02/2021 15:32

July baby here heatwave and juts nappies for first month! Nearly 9lb and 0-3 once heatwave broke. Few vests and odd sleepsuit for overnight. You can always put them clothes an online basket and buy after baby comes in case comes early

Spring2021 · 11/02/2021 15:39

With hindsight I would just buy all whites in 0-3 regardless of sex a pack of 6 vests, 6 babygros’s, a pack of mittens and half a dozen white muslim squares (so handy for everything), 6 white bibs, and maybe a white jacket or a couple of cardigans and all white bedding and wash frequently keeping all your whites separate. They only seem to be in the clothes 5 minutes and its nice they are comfortable and it be easy to get things on and off easily. Without having to prize a little leg into denim jeans or dungarees or an overly frilly girly outfit.

My June baby was too big for his newborn clothes from the outset-he was 9lb 10 and squeezed into his going home outfit for half an hour and heaved a huge sigh of relief when he got home! Even the nappies I bought were too small. I though I'd planned better for my second but he was even larger! I had to send dad out to buy larger sizes.

Mum of a 1.5 and nearly 3 yo

Thing to note all shops vary massively in their sizes - 0-3 is big, and in some shops it’s absolutely huge - as they fit up to 3 months so they’re going to be! Unless they’re an absolute beefcake they won’t fit in them for a while.

Personally I don’t like it if they’re clothes are too big. Especially baby grows they just sort of flap around!

Next, H&M, Arket, M&S and Lindex do ‘Up to 1 Month’ which I always thought bridged the gap nicely between newborn and 0-3.

I’m sure H&M and Lindex do 1-2 months also.

DC2 was a July baby 8lb 4oz we had a problem with feeding though and he did drop 12% quickly so what’s that 7lb odd?!? They didn’t fit into 0-3 months until close to 12 wks old. Same with DC1 actually.

I’d get some newborn and and up to 1 month. To start you off. Do you have a tumble dryer? Depending on how pooey and pukey they are you might need up to 3 (maybe more) grows/sets and vests a day in the first 8 weeks. I’d work out how much washing you think you can handle and if you have a dryer, which means you’ll be able to get them back in circulation quicker.

For a summer baby I’d don’t think you need any more than one proper hat, you need to keep them cool not over dress. A sun hat in newborn size is really useful too.

I’d say opt for a mix of grows and long sleeved and short sleeved vests and leggings and light weight cardies in your bigger size, if it’s warm a long sleeved vest and leggings works well. You can bob a little cardi on if it’s cooler.

If you’re doing b grow and vest on a night a sleeveless vest work well so they’re a bit cooler.

You will get given loads but most I had to swap as it was completely impractical or would have been the wrong season by the time it fitted.

The best baby grows we had were Bonds which are an Aussie brand. A friend sent us a load. The double zip is really easy for changing and the cuffs and hems fold back so you get quite a bit of wear.

Get plenty of bibs and muslins.

Exciting!

ghostyslovesheets · 11/02/2021 15:59

yeah my July baby lived in nappies and a vest for the first month - then 0-3 - she was 7lb 6oz born and is still tiny 16 years later!

TrashKitten10 · 11/02/2021 16:04

DD was 8lb12 and went straight into up to 1 month clothes which are a good middle ground between newborn and 0-3 sizes. 10 vests and 10 baby grows is probably about right. You'll also probably be gifted plenty.

ChazP · 11/02/2021 17:24

9lb3 and 9lb13.5.
First one wore up to 1 month clothes for maybe a couple of weeks. Second never fitted newborn and went straight to 0-3 month.

DDiva · 11/02/2021 18:06

My daughter was born middle of June and spent most of her first 3 months in a nappy and occasionally a short sleeve vest. It was a heatwave summer and I had loads of lovely hand knitted cardigans that never saw the light of day !

SunshineLollipopsRainbow · 11/02/2021 19:58

I didn't buy any newborn, I bought up to 1 month as its upto 10lbs whereas newborns only upto 7.5lb
