Has anyone needed a second opinion on a colposcopy?

I am 23 weeks ivf pregnant. Had some spotting on and off and due to placenta privea they have kept a close eye, was referred for a colposcopy but the doctor who looked at me has now referred me for a second opinion with a different hospital. I’m freaking out. She must think there is something wrong to send me to someone else?

Bumping for you.
I had colposcopies, but I wasn't pregnant.
Hopefully someone else will have more experience.

My friend had a a cervical ectropion in pregnancy. Have they suggested the possibility of that? x

MaLarkinn · 10/02/2021 23:37

Did you have another thread on here about this?

Fightingtobepositive · 11/02/2021 07:30

Thanks @megletthesecond did you every have to get a second opinion on first inspection?

Yes @BonnieBeaumont that’s what she said it could be but wants a second opinion so another colp which has scared me 🙈

Yes @MaLarkinn I just need all the info and support I can get right now. Not coping well at all.

Oh op, I really feel for you.

Is there a healthcare professional you could talk to that would help with your feelings?

When I was sent for a colposcopy I was a bag of nerves, not about the procedure more so about the result.

I was actually looking up the number for the hospital I went to on my lunch break today and read some info about having one during pregnancy and I thought of you.

I had not had a smear in years, 10 years in fact so went for one to be told that I had CIN3. To make matters worse, the Dr I was dealing with was foreign, very bad English so showed me some Google pics and said you are here, next stage is cancer. Jesus Christ, I was in bits. Had my colposcopy, biopsy and some treatment and all good.

What is it that's worrying you the most, procedure, outcome or affect on your pregnancy?
Sending you lots of love and hugs xx

@MaLarkinn Well I’ve been assured the procedure is safe. I had one Tuesday. It was quite painful but ok. But she’s referred me to get checked by someone else. She said she was sure it was an ectropion but wants another pair of eyes. I’m terrified of the results more than anything, she also said a biopsy can bring on labour (small chance) I’m only 23 weeks so terrified they will say I need one.
I last had a smear 3 years ago in April so would have been due one soon. But not gone over. I’m just petrified, it’s worst case, late stage I am just an absolute wreck.

I’m sorry you went through that ☹️ It must have been awful, what treatment did you get? Xx

Try not to worry op, I know this is much easier said than done.

I can't remember the name of the treatment, but it was burnt off I think. Have to say it wasn't painful at all.

Fightingtobepositive · 14/02/2021 11:17

Thank you @MaLarkinn I think I just have in my head that the time I had my last smear was before they started testing for the hpv, so that’s freaked me out now because I feel it wouldn’t have been such a sensitive test that people have now xx

How are you getting on OP?

TroublesomeTrucks · 20/02/2021 11:51

I’m not an expert but given that she’s said a biopsy can bring on labour, she doesn’t want to do one unless absolutely necessary but also doesn’t want to miss anything nasty, so although she’s confident you ‘just’ have an ectropion, she wants someone else to double check they agree with her, meaning it’s safe not to biopsy.

Sorry about the late reply guys. I’ve been avoiding the net while I wait for this next appointment 🙏🙏🙏🤞🤞🤞 but I will keep you updated. Hope your all well xx

Hi all thought I’d fill you in. I’ve had my third colposcopy and the doctor has said he’s not
to concerned but can’t see anything immediately worrying, but has still booked me to have another in 6 weeks. I am grateful for the good
News but can’t help feeling anxious that he still
Isn’t comfortable not keeping an eye. I’m 29 weeks pregnant now. I was just hoping to enjoy it and Kind of not have have something so scary hanging over my head. I’m assuming they are just keeping an eye until they can biopsy? Has anyone who’s had a colp, had another to monitor?
