waiting for zoom lesson

How long would you wait for a pupil to show up for a 20min music lesson online?
After 5 mins, I email the parent to remind them.
I ended the call after 15mins and got a cup of coffee. Now I feel guilty.
AIBU?

You waited long enough - don't feel guilty!

That’s plenty of time, don’t give it another thought and make sure that you get paid, they’re paying for your time essentially regardless of whether or not they turn up.

Bunnybigears · 10/02/2021 18:23

Thats plenty, you couldn't have done anything in the last 5 minutes even if thats when they showed up.

I do the same as you did. I do mainly half hour lessons. After 5 mins I message a reminder. After 8-10 another reminder, another way if possible. At 12-15 mins I get a cup of tea and relax for the other 15.
They pay in advance so I still get the money, but honestly, I’d much rather actually be teaching than sitting staring at a zoom screen endlessly.

OP, I don’t know if you find this too but it’s always the same pupils who are late/ forget. Weirdly they never forgot in person. I don’t quite get that; there’s surely less to remember than in normal times? Perhaps it’s just being out of the routine of everything.

justAnotherBrick

Are they the same pupils who forget/late to pay you too? Hmm
