To not understand the Marie Kondo rolling clothes thing?

Getting rid of stuff and sorting out house.

Watched a bit of Marie Kondo and wanted to try folding/rolling my clothes up and putting them in a drawer.

They come out creased.
I can’t tell which are tight legged or wide legged jeans or skirts
I can’t hang “outfits” and pieces that go together.

Does anyone make this work?

I’m an avid follower of the KonMari method (caught DH earlier today thanking his old brewing bottle brush before he threw it away 😂), but I’ve never bothered with the folding clothes part.

Fair enough if it suits you, but the only thing I fold in my wardrobe are pyjamas.

Just can’t bear the thought of creases in my clothes. I don’t even fold off the airer, I just hang everything straight away.

Pretty sure she even says in her first book that you don’t have to fold clothes if you don’t want to 🤷🏼‍♀️

Thank you Grin

Yeah, forgot to add that I never iron so I really do want to hang and leave it. Marie probably irons all her clothes, I’m guessing!

I find the folding makes my drawers a lot neater and easier to find stuff but I do have to iron things like t-shirts and knitwear before I wear them. So I hang all my work clothes and anything I wear really regularly.

SachaStark · 09/02/2021 20:34

I’m the same, OP, I NEVER iron! So yes, hanging clothes is definitely a priority for me.

I fold then roll my T-shirt’s and they fit in two rows in one drawer, long sleeved back row, short sleeved front and vests. I hang almost everything else and just throw paired socks and pants into the drawer as I’m not folding socks-I have (had) a life!

superram · 09/02/2021 20:44

I don’t iron.

AwkwardPaws27 · 09/02/2021 20:48

Hanging > rolling > folding.
I definitely don't have room to hang every t-shirt, jumper etc though, so rolling / folding and standing upright is much better in terms of both creasing and seeing whats in the drawer at a glance than standard folding and stacking vertically.

DurhamDurham · 09/02/2021 20:48

What is this ironing you speak of? Grin

I tried to roll my tops once but it only stayed tidy for a week because I kept having to pull everything out to see which one it was. I like to hang as much stuff as possible, I fold bulky jumpers and jeans but that's about it.

KatieKat88 · 09/02/2021 20:49

I use the folding method for pyjamas and knickers and to be fair it genuinely brings me joy Grin it means I can actually see all of my pjs and I have underwear in one of those fabric drawer organiser boxes from IKEA and it just looks so much nicer. Only takes seconds when putting clean washing away as long as you do it every time. Everything else is hung up (and I'm not entirely sure I know where my iron is...)

Yugi · 09/02/2021 21:06

I do the folding but not an rolling. I find they only crease if I jam them in too tightly.

Oregano20 · 09/02/2021 21:26

I've been folding my clothes like that for 2 years, it's probably the only conscious effort I've made that's ever stuck.

All our t-shirts etc fit nicely and you can see everything so you just take out what you need.

lazylinguist · 09/02/2021 22:32

I do the folding. It makes everything fot nicely in my drawers and allows me to see everything instead of rummaging around. I don't find it creases stuff rrally. I never iron.

So many people don’t iron - I’m in great company Grin
