I am 47 and probably in perimenopause. My periods are still regular but I have really noticed that I get very depressed both with PMS but now also at ovulation (what fresh hell is this)- really dark thoughts- really horrible. Feels like it’s got worse recently too.

Anyone else experienced this as they have got older and AIBU to be OVER it!

I feel like every month is a battle to remain sane in the bits between my period & ovulation. Am on Day 14 of my cycle now and feel better as have probably ovulated and have had a boost. But it will be a week or so of feeling ok before the downward spiral to PMS. Sick of it- it’s massively affecting my mental health on top of the challenges of lockdown.

I felt similar so have just started using oestrogen gel and progesterone tablets. it’s early days but I am feeling a bit more normal. already. It was prescribed by a private GP that specialises In peri/menapause.

I have friends that are having similar treatment and also are feeling better.

It’s having a massive impact on your life so please ask for help. I think we as women accept the negatives of periods and all that go with it too easily sometimes - I know it’s all natural but it shouldn’t ruin your life!!

The symptoms you're mentioning are super common with hormone imbalance, in fact 50% of all women with hormone imbalance are misdiagnosed with depression and as you're getting to an age where perimenopause could be on the cards that could very well be it. I know a great endocrinologist that's based in the states but she does online appointments and can prescribe treatments here too www.nyendocrinology.com/

I'm currently trying to work out ways to help women with hormone imbalance and related conditions such as perimenopause and eventually menopause and other related conditions like thyroid disorder and would love it if you could help by filling in this short survey?

Thanks and I hope you've been helped by now if not reach out to Rocio!
