To ask for help with barclaycard transaction

Right I had theatre tickets booked for 🎄last year. Obviously didn't go and they were rescheduled for this year but I chose to get a refund. So the refund has been credited to the payment card. Just realised this is an old credit card account I no longer use. I cut my card up and destroyed all log in details! Managed to find dh card though as he was the 2nd card holder. With that I've set up the app. The amount is showing but with a minus sign next to it. So balance shows as -£100. Does that mean the amount has been debited rather than credited because on all other card transactions (different accounts) a credit either says cr or +. Anyone with the app who can verify this?

What does it say your credit limit is vs your available balance?

UrAWizHarry · 03/02/2021 22:16

Normally money owed to the account holder on a CC will show as a negative balance, but really just call barclaycard, surely? That way you can transfer the money out at same time.

A minus sign is a payment (green) and a plus sign is a spending transaction (black). Barclaycard customer service is good though, so I'd suggest you contact them to explain your problem.

Merryoldgoat thanks so much that clarifies it! You know when it's been a really shite day and you just can't think properly. I haven't used the account since 2019 and alot has happened since then..... thanks again.

Contact the card provider and they should send you a cheque.

ShittingHell · 03/02/2021 22:19

Thanks for the other answers too. I was going to call tomorrow, just hard whilst working full time and home schooling!

Funnily enough I had a very similar thing last week and used the princely £25 credit for some wool. I felt very smug.

redsky21 · 03/02/2021 22:20

I would say it has been credited yes. On a credit card if the balance is showing as £100 that is how much you owe them. If it is -£100, then your account is in credit.

rainbowunicorn · 03/02/2021 22:23

It is a Credit card which means that the amount that you owe will be shown in the total. If this shows as a minus amount it means that has been credited back to the card.

If for example you owed £150 on the card when the refund of £100 was made then it would reduce the amount owed to £50.

The £100 was refunded when you had a £0.00 balance on the card so it shows as a minus balance as you do not owe the money to them, they owe it to you.

I think you are getting confused between a Credit and Debit card.

A debit card receiving a refund will increase your total balance whereas a Credit card receiving a refund will decrease your amount owed.
The easiest way is to get your husband to use the card to make a purchase that will use the amount that was refunded up, use it for your grocery shopping or something.
