To prefer eating breakfast alone

I enjoy the quiet time. Dp gets annoyed when I don't wait for him to have breakfast together. AIBU to prefer eating breakfast alone?

YANBU. I love eating alone too.

dudsville · 03/02/2021 08:24

I can't vote because I'm 50/50. I prefer to eat alone but it's a lively social thing to share with others.

JemimaTiggywinkle · 03/02/2021 08:24

I’m not very sociable first thing in the morning, I like to ease into the day alone.

HawDere · 03/02/2021 08:25

We have a rule in our house that breakfast is a time for quiet contemplation.
DD5 and I are peacefully ignoring each other right now.
I'm totally on your side as my preference would definitely be to eat solo

ApolloandDaphne · 03/02/2021 08:25

I like to eat breakfast alone too. My DH usually gets up earlier than me anyway and eats his first then I get peace to eat mine. Even at the weekend we don't wait for each other unless I plan to do a fry up.

sunflowersandbuttercups · 03/02/2021 08:26

YANBU.

Luckily DH leaves for work before I get out of bed! I eat breakfast in silence with the animals for company 🤣

lanthanum · 03/02/2021 08:26

Nobody in our house is good at mornings, and so breakfast is an individual affair, and reading/phones/etc are allowed even if somebody else happens to be in the kitchen at the same time. Exceptions occasionally, of course, and on holiday (especially in a hotel) I'd rather eat together.

CaptainMyCaptain · 03/02/2021 08:27

I always cook the evening meal because I like cooking not because I'm downtrodden. We fend for ourselves for breakfast and, usually, lunch because we want different things at different times.

rawalpindithelabrador · 03/02/2021 08:30

I fucking HATE mornings. I really do. Hate being social in the mornings, too. This would drive me nuts. Just tell him, 'I'm not up for breakfast together. I don't like mornings.'

Tableforfiveplease · 03/02/2021 08:34

Obviously doesn't app!y if looking after small DCs but once past that stage YANBU.

I remember watching Downton and thinking how civilised it was that married ladies were not required to be present at the breakfast table and could breakfast in their bedrooms. Not quite the same without a butler bringing you a tray though.

Chemenger · 03/02/2021 08:34

I like at least an hour without talking to anyone in first thing in the morning. Ideally, in summer, I like an hour sitting outside with a coffee, the crossword and the birds singing. Luckily I’m usually up at least an hour before anyone else in the house.

Aprilx · 03/02/2021 08:35

We tend to eat breakfast together at the weekend but not usually during the week even though we are both at home. I am a morning person, but DH isn’t.

Happytentoes · 03/02/2021 08:37

Totally with you. My preference is to hide in the shower until DH takes the dogs out, then have my tea and toast in peace.

InconvenientPeg · 03/02/2021 08:39

When I was getting up with my son through secondary, we had a lovely routine where we would sit in silence whilst we had breakfast.

My daughter now has to get up before everyone else, so I get up with her and she never stops talking. Very much takes after her dad in the morning! I had to ask her to tone it down a bit 😂

DH knows better than to try to chat for at least an hour after getting up!

Ragwort · 03/02/2021 08:58

I agree ... actually I prefer to eat all meals alone Blush - at the moment DH is working from home. I am furloughed - we are just together all the time .... I love solitude and hate trying to make conversation.... when there's nothing to talk about. DH got up & had his breakfast sometime ago, I am still in bed but just about to get up and have mine!

Watching other people earring, or commenting on what people eat is really irritating.

DenisetheMenace · 03/02/2021 09:00

Favourite time in spring, splash of sunshine, birds singing, cup of tea and toast, solitary in a quiet garden is one of life’s simplest but greatest pleasures.

sonnysunshine · 03/02/2021 09:02

DH brings me breakfast in bed most mornings. In part because he's lovely but in the main because I am a moody bastard for the first half hour.

HappyBluebird · 03/02/2021 09:04

I prefer eating alone, period!

violetbunny · 03/02/2021 09:20

DP isn't allowed to talk to me until I've had coffee 😂 That said, he is a bit of a chatterbox so I don't think it's completely unfair.

DCats on the other hand are most welcome to sit on me while I have breakfast 😍
