Hi All, can I ask how long do you give an estate agent to give you an answer on an offer for a house sale
Me and DH are buying our first house together, yes at our age (55) we have seen a house we love it is on the market for offers over £150.000 we initially offered £160.000 it took them 4 days to come back and say they have had the same offer from others can we offer anything else so we increased our offer to £163.000 that was yesterday morning at 9.30am and we still haven't heard anything,

How long do you give, or should I be ringing to pester for a response.

I would definitely pester if it's the one you want. Easy to get ignored in the house buying and selling area unless you stick up for yourself and make your voice heard.

I think i spoke to soon as 10 minutes after posting they rang me and said thank you for the offer but the vendor has a lot on his plate and cannot make a decision until next week, in the meantime its still open for viewings etc

To be honest that sounds like they want to wait it out to see if they get any better offers

Too busy to say yes or no but not too busy to have more viewings... aye

Up to you and how much you want it. I'd have a chat with the estate agent if you can gauge what kind of offer they want. But this kind of behaviour would make me wary.

I’d go quiet and see what happens, as they might be trying to push up the price. Look at other places.

GRMA · 02/02/2021 12:55

@isitsafetocomeoutyet that was our thoughts entirely the house is empty so its not as if he is living there, so we are doing what @AlwaysCheddar has said and looking elsewhere, its just sooo annoying a house goes on Rightmove but then you cant get booked in for a viewing until a week later by that time they have had so many offers your at the bottom of the list, this house hunting is doing my head in lol x

Tough one OP. What are you willing to pay for it?

I would seriously consider putting a final offer in perhaps at 164/165k but on the condition it is on the table for 24 hours only and if accepted its removed from the market immediately.

I imagine they have got a bit of interest so it may also go to a blind bid stage perhaps. If you are in a proceedable position with nothing to sell out that pint across.

Ultimately if they want to wait tell them you won’t and it’s a limited time offer then you are moving on.
