We want you to... be educated to degree level, have a range of specific competences/skills related to the industry, 1-2 years experience in said field.

We'll pay you... NATIONAL MINIMUM FUCKING WAGE.

AIBU to write angry emails to companies like these? (I'm deadly serious)

They are being ridiculous

autumnalrain · 01/02/2021 20:10

I'm aware they won't hire me after sending it and I mostly likely won't get a response anyway, but I feel like I need them to know its not okay.

@CareBear50 It's not just the one. There are so many companies that are taking advantage nowadays because they know people are desperate. It's disgraceful.

Write but DO NOT SEND!!!!!! Make sure the email address is not there - send it to yourself - so it can’t go by mistake.

Justanotherlurker · 01/02/2021 20:17

If you are talking about companies wanting somethign for nothing, then YANBU (depending on the job) but it has always been the case.

If you are talking about having a degree should guarantee a higher wage then there are a lot of variables, based on the job type, entry level, number of people in the field, also look back at all the opposition from the Tory Government back when Tony Blair championed 'education, education, education', 50% target to go to uni.

The road to hell is paved with good intentions and all that.

BlusteryLake · 01/02/2021 20:20

Send it to yourself. There is no benefit to you to send it to them. You never know who will read it and when you might next encounter them.

BullOx · 01/02/2021 20:21

If people didn’t accept jobs on these terms, the salaries would rise.

You can’t blame a business for hiring at market rates. Let’s face it, most companies exist to make profit for their owners and shareholders.

Propagandalf · 01/02/2021 20:23

YABU OP.

Yes my parents were 1 in 10 i.e. 10% had degrees back then. Highly sought after.

But:

I'm 1 in 2.
OP is 1 in 2.

We are as common as muck. If either of us sent them an angry email, they'll just hit the DEL button.

greyinganddecaying · 01/02/2021 20:23

You're right OP. It's pretty appalling.

LowlandLucky · 01/02/2021 20:27

Depends what degree you have. Many are just a joke and are of no use to anyone.

AccidentallyRunToWindsor · 01/02/2021 20:27

Please do! As someone who works in Talent Acquisition and hates this sort of thing call it out.

Calmandmeasured1 · 01/02/2021 20:30

What makes you think anyone at the company will do anything other than put your email in the recycle bin? Write it if you want but I wouldn't bother having any expectations such as expecting a reply. Anger very rarely gets you anywhere but if it makes you feel better then..... whatever.
