To feel anxious about smear result?

Got my letter today following my cervical screening in December. I’m nearly 31, all previous tests have been clear with no problems. This one has come back positive for high risk HPV and cervical changes. I’m being sent an appointment for a colposcopy and logically I know that this isn’t
uncommon but I’m feeling really scared. We were planning on trying for a baby at the end of the year and I’m terrified that I’ll have cervical cancer and any treatment required will ruin my fertility. Has anyone been in this position? Or can tell me I’m worrying too much?

I know what you mean op. It's a shock and naturally you're scared. As you say it's not uncommon and you're doing everything right getting it sorted. It's scary now as it's new information. Once you're used to it you'll calm down and get back to normal.

I was in a similar position - the colposcopy came around very quickly - it gives a more accurate reading than the smear.

After the colposcopy I had to have the cells removed which was done a few weeks after. Recovery time was 6 weeks and a follow up smear 6m later...

You should be fin to TTC for the end of the year x

My friend had this a couple of years ago. She had to have cells removed, all was fine and she fell pregnant within a year. I understand you must be feeling anxious though. Do you have a date for colposcopy

I had this a few years ago always had regular smear always fine. Last one came back very high cell changes. Doctor said very unusual to have such high changes in such a short time. I had a colposcopy within a week. Everything was clear my body had just cleared the changes themselves. Please don't panic ok it could be completely fine.

Thanks for the replies, all reassuring. No date yet but says will be within 8 weeks.

My best friend and I both got abnormal results at the same time last year (both in 30s). Everything is now back to normal for both of us.

Literally exactly the same happened to me, same age and same high risk. I had lletz and clear check up since then.

I hope the same happens for you OP.

raspberryk · 30/01/2021 23:12

I had this, had a colposcopy and lletz for con/sin? level 3 cells whatever that is and I was fully recovered within the week I am pretty sure I was back to work the next day or so. Also was pregnant within the year with no effect.

yep, same here, smears all good now :) try not to worry, the very fact that they've detected changes means they can sort it out quickly before it develops into a problem, so you are in fact very lucky x
