What are people's thoughts?

My neighbours are extending their roof/converting their attic according to a planning notice that I just got through my door.

Now of course people are free to do what they want but I'm just gutted it's during lockdown times when I can't get myself and my 3 year old away!

I'm dreading it.

I should add: I've already put up with weeks of noise when they had their kitchen done which only finished a couple of weeks ago.

They also have a dog that barks a lot.

Patience is running out!

YABU. Lockdown is the perfect time to have work done as most likely the owners are at home and can see things getting done.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 28/01/2021 14:39

It's a good thing, keeping people in work and helping the economy. Annoying for you but not for the bigger picture.

Last time they had work, they went and stayed at a friends house. During tier 3/4 and lockdown.

Realistically if they’re only at the planning stage, by the time work starts we’ll likely be out of lockdown or very nearly coming out of it

I reallllly hope so!

I don't know how long these things take usually

I agree op, its pretty selfish with everyone at home, why can't they wait

hibbledibble · 28/01/2021 14:58

Agreed that if they are only at the planning stage, then you have a while till it starts.

luxxlisbon · 28/01/2021 14:59

Easy to judge from the outside. We are currently having work done because we are having a baby and need a bedroom. Waiting until the baby is here to start the work is just not feasible.

Our neighbour worked from home prior to covid, if WFH was a reason to not to not have building works carried out on your home we would never be able to.

MiaMarshmallows · 28/01/2021 15:03

I feel your pain. Since 3rd Jan, extremely noisy building work has been going on next door. Losing the will to live. Non stop drilling from 8AM-4PM.

Tellto · 28/01/2021 15:08

I don't think people understand that when get major works done you can't "just wait" as you are on the contractors long list if jobs to fit around. if they postpone now they might end up pushed back a full 12 months or more. its unfortunate for you but everything has to keep moving on as normal as much as possible.

Tinkywinkydinkydoo · 28/01/2021 15:10

It could be a few months yet, depending on when their builders are available and nicer weather if it’s for a new roof. But I do agree with you, it would drive me dull not being able to escape the noise!

I'm not saying they're not 'allowed' etc. I'm just gutted it's during such a shit time

Of course you can wait, I am
