Affordable housing surplus?

I often see advice on here telling OPs that if they want affordable housing and don't want to be onwaiting lists for years, that they should look at areas that maybe out in the sticks etc or places with a surplus of affordable housing. So I wanted to ask where are these areas???

Deprived areas in the north. Housing is cheap when no one wants to live there bc no jobs and often no amenities and a compromised environment.

Are you talking about cheap rents, council housing/ha or buying? Bigg difference imho

Also no. Affordable doesn't have to mean deprived are with no amenities and no jobs...
