Hi everyone
I, like many of the women I know, have lost myself a bit over the past year. I’m early 30s, young children, professional job and used to enjoy making myself feel “nice”.
I don’t really recognise myself anymore, and just want to feel a bit more feminine/put together. Can anyone recommend any good products to use at home?
I’m thinking head to toe- from hair products for frizz to something good for neglected feet!
Thank you in advance x

Facetheory has some really nice face products, im dying to get their night skin cream on payday it also has lavender to help sleep so i also class it as self care :p

Fedoos · 25/01/2021 20:43

Footner socks! They leave your feet so lovely and soft, and it's SO much fun peeling off all the dead skin (even though you're not supposed to)!

tinselvestsparklepants · 25/01/2021 20:47

A new perfume. Some of the tiny m&s ones are really nice and are affordable. But a new smell that you'll notice on yourself is always a pick-me-up.

Pukkatea · 25/01/2021 20:50

I second perfume, because its normally a 'going out' thing so it makes me feel really put together. I love argan oil for my hair and have been using olaplex 3 to get it into top condition.

MrsDeadlock · 25/01/2021 20:53

I felt like this quite recently. Caught sight of myself in a mirror wearing my best mum anorak, backpack and mum bun. Shocker. I'm in a v professional role at work and have to dress smart usually. Until 2020.

I bought myself a lovely smart coat in the sales. Then a new bag. Then started blowdrying my hair. Bought more clinique moisture surge (intense), slather it on.

Small steps but I feel better about it .

WhateverJudy · 25/01/2021 20:53

The things that make me feel better and more groomed are:

  • Eat healthily and drink loads of water.
  • Exercise, even YouTube videos at home for 20 minutes. Almost anyone can do that.
  • A long bath, do hair removal and loads of body lotion.
  • Paint toenails.
  • Light make up every day even at home
  • Perfume, again even if at home.

Getting into a routine is key. You need to switch your mindset to prioritise self care. Too many women put themselves last constantly which exacerbated the kind of thing you’re feeling. You need to be you as well as a mum.

Youarenothere · 25/01/2021 20:55

Op I feel exactly the same, a treat on the self care front is having a shower where I wash my hair AND shave my legs

Reinventinganna · 25/01/2021 21:03

I like to put on a hair mask, exfoliate my whole body and use a nice smelling moisturiser.

IthinkIm · 25/01/2021 21:06

I so needed this thread too. Where can I buy footner?

SarahBellam · 25/01/2021 21:15

I use a bit of Dove self tanning moisturiser on my face and neck every few days and blow dry my hair using a big Revlon hair brush bow dryer thingy. I use Google Fit for ‘heart points’ (any exercise that raises your heart rate) and try to get a minimum of 40 a day by doing a bike ride, a walk or a YouTube exercise video. I made it my New Years resolution to get out of the house for at least half an hour a day and apart from a few days bad weather I’ve been able to do it. It’s made a big difference to my mental health and how I feel about myself.

AsunaLeafa · 25/01/2021 21:16

Hi ladies! So glad I found this post! I have really let myself.go this last year (covid blues) I have gained alot.of weight and just stopped caring about myself.in general.

JacktomyDaniel · 25/01/2021 21:23

Hello!
I am exactly the same! Just in the last week I bought body shop spray oil for my skin. I hate body moisturiser feeling sticky so never bother but this is dry and silky. I also bought some peony bath foam from them which is up high away from the kids. I've always used tropic face products and their green and yellow face masks are incredible. I've just splashed out and bought skin dream for my fave overnight and their footcare kit.
I'm trying to do one new thing every week then even if I only do it once a week it's still more than I was doing before.
On a different note I realised that living in pj's and leggings was making me feel gross but to be frank I'm too fat and uncomfortable for jeans and bras in the house at the minute! I bought 3 pairs of nice joggies (tie dye etc) and 3 slogan t shirts, some soft sport bras and a nice hoody. That way I can feel like I'm slobbing out but with some tinted moisturiser, mascara and messy bun I actually look just about presentable.

I always order from Amazon but you can normally get them in Boots, Superdrug, etc.

Clicketyclick21 · 25/01/2021 22:34

I hear you!

Indecisive12 · 25/01/2021 22:45

Olaplex number 3 was a game changer for my hair. Used twice weekly for a couple of weeks then weekly then fortnightly.

noblegreenk · 25/01/2021 22:47

I'd highly recommend tinted moisturiser and tinted lip balm. I always wore a full face of makeup before the lockdowns. When we had the first one I stopped wearing makeup altogether because I didn't see the point. After a while I felt like I wanted to make a bit of effort (just for myself really) but didnt want to have to do my whole face. So now I'm wearing tinted moisturiser/lip balm and it makes such a difference! It takes 2 min to apply, i look much more groomed and feel loads better when I glance in the mirror.

Fizzywinegum · 25/01/2021 22:54

Which tinted moisturiser/lip balm do you recommend noble? Thanks

JaceLancs · 25/01/2021 22:59

Planning helps me
I look through my wardrobe on a Sunday night and plan what I’m wearing till Friday
I’m dieting so plan 5 work lunches and 6-7 evening meals
I wear a different perfume every day and change my jewellery once a week
It’s the little things that keep me going

Conkergame · 25/01/2021 23:02

I got myself a Champneys mask kit for Christmas - face masks, hair masks, foot masks and hand masks! I do one each weekend and feel so pampered!

Hey OP, not sure if you’re still in the same place, built I was wondering if you could say a bit more. How do you feel you’ve “gone”?
Am thinking that might lead to more relevant and helpful suggestions.
