I've been off the pill over 7 years. 2 children in that time.
Since coming off my skin and hair have been terrible (suffered adult acne in my late teens early 20's also), I ended up delaying kids and going on Accutane about 6 years ago. Never got a handle on it and its slowly gotten worse since coming off it.
The spots on my face nearly always come out around my period now. But my scalp and hair is another story, never had acne on my scalp but its been unreal since stopping taking the pill, and this has never gone away, it's sore painful and so itchy it stops me sleeping sometimes. My hair has also been thinning gradually, and I'm not sure whether this hormonal (only started after stopping taking the pill) or as a result of the scalp acne.
My hair and my face have become particularly bad in the last 7 months. My hair is now scarily thin in some places - it looks awful and I'm very frightened of losing more, I just can't afford to. I have spoken to my GP and she's just said it's your hormones, you need to balance them, go back on the pill.
I don't disagree with this, however I'm really hesitant about taking it again at nearly 40, mainly because of the breast cancer risks, for some reason it feels really irresponsible with me having two young children.
What do people think. I've been prescribed Dianette.
I've taken and done everything under the sun for my skin in the past but am open to new developments that may have come about in the past few years whilst I've been in the baby bubble.
Also lost lot of weight in the past few years and I know people always say the pill makes you gain weight!! That is playing on my mind as well.
