Aibu/crazy to move away from London/support?

I have three children and I live in London. All my family are here and friends (the two that I have) I have always wanted to move out of London and that was the plan when I was with my ex, I've never liked London and gradually have been moving slightly further out each time just never taken the leap. I have a job I would have to keep so couldn't go too far outside as I will need to commute to Hillington sides. It's a secure job and I dare say I'll be there for life now. I have just always wanted a better life for my girls, for money to go further to start fresh from it all and to just let go.

I have a fear of change and it has always held me back I also have a need to be 'in control' or have a plan but I am tired of living like that now as the minute things go wrong/not to plan I crumble. I have an OK home with a garden (rented temporary accommodation and on the housing list have been for 5yrs now) but I can't do anything to it I can't paint or anything so just doesn't feel homely no matter what I do rent is still extremely high £1300 although I get help via housing benefit. If I left I would have to come off the housing list and go into private rent which is scary I once moved 6 times in one year from emergency accommodation to emergency accommodation after being evicted.

This has turned out to be extremely long and waffling post.

Has anyone moved away on their own and lived better? Was it the best decision yiu made? Am I fooling myself thinking I could make it work? Are there any areas with an OK commute you would recommend?
