Freaking out - I think I've found a lump..

For the last week or so I've had a sore left breast, like a sharp, stabbing pain mainly around the nipple. I've been thinking it could be caused due to hormonal changes etc, but I've just checked and felt them and I'm convinced I've found a lump behind my nipple 😢

I feel it when I press down on my nipple and it does feel different on the right. My left breast is generally just sore to touch.

I'm totally, totally freaking out right now. I know nobody can diagnose me over here and I'll be ringing my GP tomorrow, but has anybody had anything similar? I'm terrified, I'm only mid 20s and I've worried myself silly that it could be C Sad

Is it time of the month? Please don’t panic, even if it is a lump the majority are harmless. Give your GP a call tomorrow x

waffleing · 24/01/2021 21:36

@Darbs76 I'm not sure. I am usually due at the end of the month but I've recently stopped taking the pill so I don't know if my period will be coming soon xx

Yes dont panic yet. That's most important. Its likely to be nothing serious. Keep telling yourself that. And you call your doctor as soon as to make an appointment Flowers

Notimeforaname · 24/01/2021 21:37

It could very well be some hormonal changes too.

whoamongstus · 24/01/2021 21:37

Understandable to panic but it can be a few things, some of which aren't serious whatsoever. A friend of mine has been getting lumps since she was 19 and they're just benign cysts - go to the doctor's and get checked but try not to panic til you know what it is. Easier said than done I know, but it could be nothing worrying at all!

cautiouscovidity · 24/01/2021 21:37

I had this in my early 20s (pain and small lump). Panic is an understatement; I mentally planned my funeral and everything 😂
It had gone within a few days - Dr said it was most likely a hormonal thing.
Please make an appointment just to be on the safe side but it's more than likely to be nothing to worry about. X

Yes ..... I have behind then nipple very sore to touch . Sore for a couple of days then disappear . Usually around the time of period .
As the other mumnetters have said make an appointment tomorrow to see DR .

But speculation will do no good here. If you take one piece of advice away, take this..do not google anything.

waffleing · 24/01/2021 21:39

I do hope it's just because maybe the time of the month is coming. I guess I'm freaking out more because my grandma died of breast cancer a couple of years ago Sad it just terrifies me

Same happened to me recently and the lump grew fast. It was painful, wasn’t hard and it moved so I had an idea it was harmless. Due to my older age I got sent for mammogram and scan and it turned out to be cysts. Panicking helps no one OP. Just ring your GP

LongBlobson · 24/01/2021 21:42

I regularly get sore lumps on one side or the other. First time it happened I freaked out too, saw the GP, got referred to hospital for a scan and by then it had pretty much gone and they couldn't find anything! Conclusion was it was hormonal. Normally they appear mid-cycle and stick around until my period.

Anyway, don't panic! There are loads of possible causes of your lump, cancer is pretty low on the list. Talk to your GP - if they refer you to be seen urgently at a breast clinic that's because it's standard procedure and not because they think it's anything terrible.
