Hia - having a play on the Ikea planner as hoping to have a new kitchen in the future.

We have an odd shaped kitchen, but planning to keep the unit layout generally the same.

I am in 2 minds about the area circled; option 1 in new design to try and get some more worktop, option 2 are larder units, which we also currently have.

Note: there will be a small worktop area about 2ftx1ft wide to right of oven, just can't see it on this image

Voting question:

Yes - more worktop
No - keep larder units

Thanks!

I think the larder units look much better next to the oven unit, if you wanted extra worktop could you move the oven to the left hand corner so you then get a longer worktop to the right of the oven?

IndigoHexagon · 23/01/2021 19:00

Larder for sure - extra worktop by there will just be extra space for clutter!

WhenSheWasBad · 23/01/2021 19:04

I voted more worktop as I was worried you don’t have much.
It is hard to see in the picture. If there lots more worktop around the sink?

foxhat · 23/01/2021 21:40

Larder looks better but how much worktop do you have in the whole kitchen?

Sway19 · 23/01/2021 21:44

Option 2, without a doubt Smile

I like worktop next to the oven rather than having to walk/move to put hot things elsewhere.

Where are you putting a microwave? You don't seem to have much worktop space.

I think there's a fair bit or worktop all around the sink under the window and opposite the area in question - I think this will be a clutter collecting area as it's so far away from the sink and job you won't use it for food prep. So unless you have a specific need for it in mind, I'd go for the tall units.

MaggieFS · 23/01/2021 21:53

*of worktop not or!

RandomMess · 23/01/2021 21:54

I wonder if you could have a pull out shelf for hot things from the larder unit? That would be perfect!!

gonerogue · 23/01/2021 21:56

Larder units instead of the worktops - easier to hide the clutter and less temptation to just fill the space with stuff.

thelegohooverer · 24/01/2021 00:17

Option 2. Because you have space to land hot things on the other side of the oven. I wouldn’t be turning to put things on the counter opposite if you have traffic through that area.

You need more worktop space, definitely.
