Family cars for 3?? Help!

LauraRuralMumOf3 · 21/01/2021 13:54

We are expecting number 3 and I currently have a Nissan x trail which I love but it won’t take 3 car seats. Children will be 4, 2 and newborn. What family cars do people have that take 3 car seats and have a big boot?

I have an smax and it’s great. Can get 3 car seats across the back and the boot is absolutely massive. It converts to a 7 seater and the boot is still reasonable when all seats in use. I currently use it to store buggies for work....in there I have a triple, single & double buggy!

Multimac in a Range Rover, works well for us

WatchWatch · 21/01/2021 14:02

S max, C max grande. The new x trail will fit some carseats 3 across.

We have a Peugeot 5008. Our children were 3, 1 & newborn when we got it. It's been a great car for us.

Lovethewater · 21/01/2021 14:06

Citroen c4 spacetourer has 3 fullsize rear seats with isofix and takes 3 individual car seats (or two and plenty of room for an adult). Big boot too.

multimacs serves a purpose but aren't great as they only rear face to 13kg, the same as an infant carrier.
Bluetonic41 · 21/01/2021 14:11

@WatchWatch 13kg is very roughly the size of a 3yr old. .Regardless of the ideal recommendations there are very few people who have a 3yr old rear facing.

Mingasauros · 21/01/2021 14:14

Peugeot 5008 👍

Pollypocket21 · 21/01/2021 15:03

Smax, VW Touran and Sharan

Lemons1571 · 21/01/2021 15:06

I had the quashqui +2 so basically the model before yours, 7 seater though. Is yours a 7 seater?
DP had an accident and it was written off and we now have the kia sorrento, which can fit 3 seats in the back at a squeeze and the boot is huge. I live it.
My mum drives the seat alhambra, which is great because it has 3 full sized seats in the middle, and 2 extra seats in the back. The boot is massive if you take the seats in hers out, but she has a very old model. I think the newer models just have folding seats in the boot.

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 21/01/2021 15:15

They do. There the 17 plate, and the boot looks really big and 3 full seats in the middle.

Be Sharan - 3 Iso fix points across back seat with full size adult seats (no smaller seat on the middle). Optional rear 2 extra seats which fold flat into floor (also isofix). Huge boot. Big windows so nice visibility.

Comfortable drive. Front and rear sensors. Sliding doors so the kids can get in and out independently. Not scared of wackjng neighbouring cars.

I wouldn't drive anything else now.

Audi Q7!

MissBaskinIfYoureNasty · 21/01/2021 15:48

4 kids, we have a Galaxy.

Bayleaf25 · 21/01/2021 16:40

Another vote for SMax, it actually drives well too, is decently priced compared to some cars, fingers crossed seems pretty reliable, plenty of space x

Misshapencha0s · 21/01/2021 17:03

Kia Sorrento

Alwaysandforeverhere · 21/01/2021 17:10

We have an Smax previously had a Cmax which was a huge squish the Smax is lovely.

Bromeliad · 21/01/2021 17:16

We have a VW Touran, so much space and it's not as long as the S-Max.

BluebellCockleshell123 · 21/01/2021 17:25

We had an S-Max when our 3 kids were small. Really liked driving it but now the kids are bigger we’ve got a Galaxy. It’s great to drive & has more headroom in the back & boot space but doesn’t feel that much bigger to drive than the S-Max.

BertieBotts · 21/01/2021 17:28

15kg is the average 3yo. 13kg is more like 2yo.

(Just in case people were invested in the debate :o)

Another vote for Peugeot 5008. We also liked the boot size in the Hyundai i30 but didn't get as far as checking middle seat car seat suitability.

FlyingPandas · 21/01/2021 17:33

Another vote for the Ford SMax. Great to drive, easily get 3 car seats across the back, lots of boot space but doesn’t feel like a tank.

Around 80% of families with 3 kids around here seem to drive one, which may either persuade you it’s a great option or put you off for being far too popular!

TheListeners · 21/01/2021 18:10

Volkswagen caddy maxi life, I love it especially on long journeys when we can split the kids up. Has 7 seats, sliding doors and a decent sized boot too.

xyzandabc · 21/01/2021 18:14

We had a Toyota verso, now have a vw touran.
