On Sunday Dh started feeling unwell. Then yesterday had a slight fever and cough. He's booked in for a test. Now I have the exact same symptoms but no cough yet. Just sore throat, aches and have been burning up over night. Obviously we will both be isolating. Do I just assume I have it if he's positive or need to confirm with a test too?

Yes take a test, so you can protect those you may have been in contact with.

YukoandHiro · 20/01/2021 07:56

Get the test. If you need medical help for any reason (this or anything else random that happens) you need to be able to tell them

Get a fucking test. Ffs. We're a year in and you're still asking this?

Calm down. Poster is asking a valid question about whether she should just assume she has the virus or waste NHS resources to find out - which will be neither here nor there since she will have to isolate with her husband for 10 days now they have been in contact anyway. Atleast she isn't testing Willy nilly like the idiot who wanted to go see her boyfriend.

Yes, get a test, just to be sure.

SweetLathyrus · 20/01/2021 08:09

@ShittingHell the advice in the NHS and Gov websites are that you only need one of the symptoms to get a test. I wasn't sure but 111 confirmed it. Get the test, the capacity is there, once you've had symptoms for a certain amount of time it won't be accurate, so do it straight away.

I think it was a fair question, I am mindful of NHS resources and try not to be wasteful. I would not be sure that a “slight fever” and a sore throat warrants a test. I am often boiling in the night for no particular reason. If I were OP, I would take my temperature with a thermometer and make a decision based on that.

If you've been home for days before and wouldn't have any names to give to track and trace, then you could just self isolate instead.

If however you've been out to work etc in the couple of days before, if get a test as that will mean other people will know to isolate to!

I've booked a test. We are both going at the same time. Thanks for answers.
