Storms are sexist

As Storm Christoph batters parts of Britain , i was reviewing a work training piece about unconscious bias and it states that Hurricanes with female names cause more death because people don't take them seiously or believe they are as deadly as male named storms, causing more fatalities.
AIBU -it is unconscious bias
AINBU -i should have it removed

A storm and a hurricane are wildly different! If you are talking about the 2014 Jung study, it isn't widely supported. Anyone who has experienced true hurricanes doesn't give a f**k what they are called - they hunker down or run the hell away. Nature doesn't give a damn what you call it, and people living in the path of nature generally respect it whatever teh weathermen call it.

I would like to understand the data to be sure a couple of significant 'female' hurricanes hadn't just been stronger and therefore pushed the death rate up. I'm not convinced otherwise.

I agree with Moondust001. Having lived in a place that was subject to hurricanes, no-one cared what they were called! The area suffered significant damages from storms with both male and female names, and I don't believe anyone took the "female" storms any less seriously than the "male".

Also, it's difficult to compare the death tolls from hurricanes, because no two storms or situations are exactly the same. There are too many factors at play to make comparison purely on the basis of the genders of names worthwhile, in my opinion.
