My boss is absolutely useless ! How do I deal ??

My boss really really grinds on me. He's so lazy- he has no idea how any of our systems work or how any of our products work or what any of our competitors do.

He literally just barks orders all day and the team are sick of it. He adds no value and the higher ups are starting to notice. The worst thing is his laziness. I'm not saying just because you're the boss, you need to know everything- but he literally can't ever help me with anything. He always asks if I need support, but that just means he micromanages every part of my day. That's not really support is it ? Support for him is just forcing me to work harder and making me do things his way. Rather than coaching me in how to do it better. He sends auch long emails with so many actions it makes your head spin. You just don't even know where to start..

He has also never actually done my job before or succeeded at anything even remotely similar. Think he's only ever done telesales / business development where you don't need to close deals but now manages a large field (outside) sales team, where you have to close deals. All his knowledge is based on theories and there is no way he would be able to do the job himself. The laziness is astounding. He can't even help with the simplest tasks we ask him. He also always forgets things you discuss / or doesn't pay attention properly and then misses stuff which can really damage the customer / situation.

What can one do with a boss like this ?

Is it a large organisation, do you have a regional manager you can raise concerns with.

He adds no value and the higher ups are starting to notice.

Sit back and let him dig.

Oh I hope someone notices. It's becoming unbearable.

Can you raise concerns with HR?
