Hearing abuse through Xbox - is there anything we can do?

Dh playing on Xbox. He uses the earphone things to speak to other players on his “team”. Earlier this evening a random guy who was playing could he heard shouting at what sounded like maybe a two or three year old. Stuff like “fuck off you little prick” and then (they’re playing call of duty so sort of relevant) “wish I could shoot this little cunt he’s been moaning all day”. There was ither shouting etc but could quite make it out. It was, to be honest a bit of a sudden shock and Dh jist left the game.

I could clearly hear it all from sitting next to dh and through earphones so was screaming at the child I assume.

However am wondering if realistically there’s anything I can do. I gather it’s anonymous and besides which Dh has no clue who he was playing against etc.

Really was harrowing and am at a bit of a loss.

Sadly I dont think there is anything you can do. Thats awful though.

briebuiltthiscity · 18/01/2021 22:42

It really was! As I was next to dh I was like “am I really hearing that”? The guy was laughing as well - it was so awful.

Sad

Is this someone dh knows in RL?

bellropes · 18/01/2021 23:10

Some parents speak to their children like that all the time.

Sad but true. I used to see it every day at work. Sad

briebuiltthiscity · 18/01/2021 23:16

@Hankunamatata god no. It was some absolute random on the Xbox.

Yep I know people speak to their children like this - but it was honestly honestly awful. It was just so nasty sounding - “fuck you prick” is nasty anyway - but it was said with real venom as well.

It's disgusting. I used to hear my neighbour talk tell her children to fuck off and reported her to SS when I heard her call them cunts. I wish I'd done it sooner.

The poor little mite. There's nothing you can do if you don't know who they are, unfortunately.

Wyntersdiary · 18/01/2021 23:46

Reminds me of a few years ago, hearing a 2 year old girl crying non stop and the mum say in the background "you don't shut up and ill kick you in your *something" " que louder screaming, so I heard the guys chair move like he got up and then a slap sound.. Que an awful crying like a silent can't breathe cry and a please and then the guy left the lobby and I cried.

I didn't have children at the time but remember wanting to at that point destroy all child abusers and feeling so useless.. I still cry now when I think of how many abusers there are out there. I have a 2 year old and a 1 year old and it terrifies me the thought of them going through something terrible.

tobeornottobe1 · 18/01/2021 23:47

Op that's Awful! Are you sure he wasn't just shouting it at the TV whilst playing the game?

briebuiltthiscity · 18/01/2021 23:50

@tobeornottobe1 sadly no- the child was screaming and crying. It shook me up a bit to be honest.

Is there any option on the Xbox to report another player? Probably not but worth a try. Poor kid, some people are just vile.

briebuiltthiscity · 18/01/2021 23:52

@Wyntersdiary it’s shocking isn’t it - in the truest sense - you feel actual shock.
I’ve heard people swear at kids before and while obviously I don’t like it - this was somehow Ona different level. The guy sounded fucking evil if I’m honest.

Sadly I think it’s maybe too late as don’t know who it was. That said I’m not in any way familiar with how it all works. I never play the thing, was just sat quietly next to dh so overheard it all

I was really young studying and nannying in Paris and I witnessed the father scream in the face of his 3 year old son and slap his palm down very hard on the top of the little boys head in frustration..I got such a fright.

It happened as I was leaving their apartment as usual in the evenings, leaving father and son. I just walked out in shocked and cried. And wondered should I do something. I was shared by this family and another. Professional normal looking people...just one of them bullied and abuse little children.Sad

Yolande7 · 19/01/2021 00:12

That's emotional abuse. I would report this to the police and see what they say. If the child was screaming, he might have been hurting the child at the same time. I reported someone on Instagram and the police was able to track them down just by their username, so you never know.

Heyahun · 19/01/2021 00:42

Xbox and PlayStation record and listen into chats that take place on the platform - not sure it they record them all or not?

But you can definitely see the users you were playing with previously and report them anonymously to Xbox - then they will investigate further - perhaps they will listen in on the guys future games and hear for themselves and take it further?

That’s about all you can do really!

CryingHelps · 19/01/2021 00:44

Could your DH play the same game at the same time for a few nights and see if he can get his username - then report to the Police. They'll be able to physically track him down. It's abuse.

Heyahun · 19/01/2021 00:45

Go to the friends menu, select recent players from drop down menu, select the player , select more , then select report!

briebuiltthiscity · 19/01/2021 00:47

@Heyahun perfect. Am hoping it’s still on there as he’s played a few games this evening (still on the sodding thing now). Not sure how we can work out which player it is - but may be helpful.
