Just back from lunch at my dad’s, we had toasties. I always do bread, meat, tomato, cheese on top. He does cheese UNDER the tomato!! This is just wrong, surely??

YANBU. How is the cheese going to melt under the wet, soggy tomato?

Yep , cheese goes under the tomato. All flat food goes on first and anything lumpy goes on last.

Sliced cheese would go under the tomato. Grated cheese is more flexible (it's acceptable to put grated cheese on top of tomato on pizza of course). But no way would you put sliced cheese on top, that's madness.

As a sandwich in a toasted sandwich maker then cheese first as it is flatter but you can turn it over so it doesn't really matter.

That’s not a toastie, that’s cheese on toast! A toastie is a toasted sandwich.

Why didn’t you say Op? Grated cheese should still go under the tomato though.

I would also put the cheese on top ... or maybe put a bit of cheese both underneath and on top for ultimate cheesiness 😀

Cheese on the bottom, tomato on top, and a little sprinkling of extra cheese on top
