To eat the same snacks as the DC?

Just facetimed with a friend and was having a coffee and a pack of organix mini gingerbread men and friend said 'You are so weird, do you not have adult biscuits with your coffee?' She was joking, but when I thought I about it, I eat a lot of the same snacks as the DC. Mainly because I think most snacks are the same in terms of type if that makes sense and it never occurs to me to buy different snacks for me and DH regularly. If we fancy a particular something, I will buy it, but day to day, I think a biscuit is a biscuit and it has the added benefit of being lower sugar/ salt whatever and a smaller portion size, I am a bugger for finishing open packets, so do find this useful and healthy. To me and DH Pom bears taste just as a good with dip on as fancy crisps, so why not. It all stops us having the 'I want you to eat these snacks, but we grown ups can eat these ones, discussions with the kids.' I also think mini Kinder bars are delicious, so I just eat 2 rather than one if I fancy some chocolate. Yogurts are of course different, because DH and I would need to eat a whole pack of little yeos to get enough yogurt! Even DS 6 has moved onto big yogurts!

So, AIBU and am I missing any mega kids snacks?

When I give the kids the apple or banana rice cakes I always end up eating them too

Cuntitinthebin · 18/01/2021 11:53

Kids have the best snacks.

FelicityBob · 18/01/2021 11:54

YABU to eat the toddler snacks because they are ridiculously expensive and all the individual packaging is bad for the environment.

minipie · 18/01/2021 11:56

I eat the kids’ snacks if I like them, but some of them are pretty expensive - those organix biscuits are definitely a lot more than a packet of ginger nuts for example - so I wouldn’t eat those especially not just to “finish off the packet”

FelicityBob · 18/01/2021 11:57

Also I’d much rather hide under the stairs eating a chocolate hobnob that organix biscuits that don’t taste of anything

Ticklemynickel · 18/01/2021 11:59

Pom Bears are in my top 3 favourite crisps.

ChocolateSantaisthebestkind · 18/01/2021 11:59

@FelicityBob that is one thing I feel guilty about, but make choices in other areas to offset as much as possible.

organix mini gingerbread men c. £1.65 per 100g
Doves Farm ginger oat biscuits (organic) 84p per 100g
McVitie's Ginger Nuts 30p per 100g

expensive habit Hmm

dingoesatemybaby · 18/01/2021 12:00

I love a Farley's rusk!

ChocolateSantaisthebestkind · 18/01/2021 12:03

@EveryDayIsADuvetDay Shock never thought of it like that! May be I should try a biscuit jar, so as to not have open packets annoying me!

Never bought Biscuits crisps etc aimed at kids as they are far to expensive. I buy asda own everything and it tastes just as good for third the price.

Candyfloss99 · 18/01/2021 12:11

No, way too expensive, you can get a whole packet of ginger nuts from Asda for 20p and everyone can eat them. And all the packaging for all the individual packets I would feel so bad about.

coldwaterfeed · 18/01/2021 12:16

Seriously? Pom Bears are mostly oil. There are much better snacks to eat with dips, like authentic corn tortillas.

Usually I would say eat what you want but the thought of anyone thinking Pom Bears with dip is worth wasting calories on is mind boggling.

I find those organix ginger bread ones taste of nothing so yabu to eat those. Other than that there isn’t much difference in our house between adult and kids snacks (except for my secret chocolate box). DH started eating what I’d buy for the kids and DD likes what we eat.

fastandthecurious · 18/01/2021 12:33

I used to eat more of DS sweet corn melts sticks than he did. DH thought I was a weirdo😂 I only initially ate last couple in a packet as I didn't want them going stale and wasting, and then I sort of got addicted to them! 😂

Oysterbabe · 18/01/2021 12:37

I feed the kids adult snacks.
Never bought all those overpriced mini things.

Beans13 · 18/01/2021 12:39

Eat what you want OP! People are so so judgey for 0 reason.

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 18/01/2021 12:43

At the start of lockdown I was given emergency food parcel by community centre (they had problems getting supply arrangements sorted and it was left over). That included crispy dried tomatoes that were intended for toddlers & were OK - didn't buy any when I saw the price.

The catering pack of beef chianti casserole from a restaurant chain was amazing though - sadly chain didn't reopen Sad in the latter part of the year - would have definitely bought tons of that!

PeskyRooks · 18/01/2021 12:47

I've got the palate of an 8 year old so I eat loads of kids snacks..cheesestrings, dairylea dunkers, baby bels, frazzles, monster munch, kinder hippos..love a banana yazoo too

SavoyCabbage · 18/01/2021 13:17

I wouldn't have been giving them to my dc in the house never mind scoffing them myself! Unless you are the Sultan of Brunei Stuff in packets is for when you have to take them out and about.

MrsDiplo · 18/01/2021 16:58

im with you, i love a bag of cadburys mini chocolate fingers with my cup of tea. Also monster munch are amazing.

Godimabitch · 18/01/2021 17:03

You lost me at pombears and dip (wtf) but won me back with mini kinder bars because they are food of the gods.

shitinmyhandsandclap · 18/01/2021 17:05

@dingoesatemybaby
