When are the clothes shops likely to reopen?

Desperate for some new running gear and really dislike buying clothes online as they're never quite right! [smile}

I thought there was a review in a few weeks time but then everything now seems to say gradual reopening from March? Confused

No one knows. Not even the people who make the decision know. It depends on infection numbers.

SendMeHome · 18/01/2021 10:11

I don’t think there’s any plans to reopen before the February half term, and everything seems to have suggested non-essential retail will be closer to March if not Easter.

Although I think bike shops are allowed to be open, so you might be able to get what you need from there? Albeit overpriced because of the circumstances.

I’d just order online from somewhere with a good collections service, I think.

saffire · 18/01/2021 10:14

Nobody knows.

Can't you buy from shops you've previously brought from? Or places that have free returns?

BarbaraofSeville · 18/01/2021 10:25

I'd just buy online from somewhere that does free returns, it's likely to be a month or two yet for high street shops to open.

M&S has a new range of sports wear and you can collect from a Simply Food store if you don't buy enough for free delivery. Or Sweaty Betty has a sale on if you want high end.

Lockheart · 18/01/2021 10:26

When the lockdown lifts. Until then it's unlikely.

Givemeabreak88 · 18/01/2021 10:28

I really wish primark would open, I normally buy things from there which I find expensive elsewhere! And I hate buying online and then it doesn’t fit and it’s such a pain to return it most places now expect you to print the returns form and I don’t have access to a printer so ended up just paying to return

edwinbear · 18/01/2021 10:31

Sainsbury's do some good work out gear, do you have one locally that stocks Tu?

selflove · 18/01/2021 10:42

No-one knows, it's just educated guesses.

The govt has said all along that they will prioritise schools opening, even if that meant keeping everything else shut. So I don't think shops will reopen until after schools are back. And most guesses about schools going back are saying gradually from March, leading to Easter

rbe78 · 18/01/2021 10:50

Do you have a Go Outdoors near you? They are allowed to open as they sell bikes, but obviously have lots of other sporty clothing too...

Serafinaaa · 18/01/2021 16:59

In the last lockdown I bought some
Supermarket stuff and was pleasantly surprised by how well it fitted and washed.

GirlCrush · 18/01/2021 17:00

when its safe for the staff to be there....

peak2021 · 18/01/2021 17:03

We don't know but my guess is not before Easter. Not ideal for you but it may have to be click and collect as an alternative.

Pipandmum · 18/01/2021 17:03

I reckon March.

redsquirrelfan · 18/01/2021 17:09

I buy everything online so I'm no help. I buy from retailers I've used before, so I trust the sizing. And quite often I buy their remaindered stock from ebay,

If you need running stuff there's so much nice stuff you can get online and the measurements help you select the right size. I have recently bought things from Run Mummy Run and Contra.

SvenandSven · 20/01/2021 22:22

Tikiboo is fab for running gear🏃‍♀️
They are really quick delivery and great customer service. Although not the cheapest to buy but the quality is perfect.

speakout · 20/01/2021 22:25

Costco have some good sportswear at the moment.

MissMarpleDarling · 20/01/2021 22:51

Buy online

likeamillpond · 20/01/2021 22:54

Even if clothes shops do open I bet the changing rooms will still be closed
One of the reasons I haven't bought clothes for a yea is because I like to try things on before buying.

Saladd0dger · 20/01/2021 23:02

I just bought some fab gym leggings from Tesco. £10. They had quite a selection. So comfy and they will definitely keep my wobbly bits in place while running 🏃‍♀️

hammeringinmyhead · 20/01/2021 23:08

Agree they may open in March but you won't be allowed to try on if we're still in softly-softly 6-people-gatherings mode like some places were last summer.

Phoenix76 · 20/01/2021 23:16

I agree with the online suggestions (although I hear you about why you’re reluctant). Honestly, some of the best purchases I’ve made since this has started (people actually complimenting me on my clothes) have been online. Personally, I’ve been using Amazon (yes I know the thoughts on this but without Amazon I don’t know how I’d have got through this), I’ve read the reviews on what I’m interested in (you soon learn the real reviews from fake) and I’ve been seriously impressed and it’s been much cheaper and more convenient.

whereismormonjesus · 21/01/2021 01:41

Hate hate hate to be that person but if you insist on getting it in store then Tesco do some good running gear. You could always get some stuff from there to see you through then treat yourself to better quality stuff once the shops open.

Quaagars · 21/01/2021 01:44

Nobody knows.
In the meantime, I'm just taking each day as it comes and think realistically things will start opening up again slowly around Easter.
As I said though, nobody knows though and my guess is as god as anyones.

Quaagars · 21/01/2021 01:44

good as anyones, not god

Marzipan12 · 21/01/2021 11:36

No idea. Schools are being prioritised as the first to open and that's looking very unlikely untill at least March . Everything else will be slowly staggered after that but in what order nobody knows.
