We run a non essential retail business, which has obviously had to close (not a problem to us we have closed in all three lock downs and followed the rules) We live in a small village with our business being in the next small village. People have been posting on face book sites wanting to know where they can buy the non essentials from (I would kind of guess the name is in the clue non essential = not required in my mind) Someone on one of our local sites ( unbeknown to me) has published our home address suggesting we may be able to help them, am absolutely raging have had 4 lots of random strangers knocking on my door this afternoon asking if we can open for them!! and were quite put out when I said no, this is on top of burying my mum last week and the worst comments ever from my MIL about it. How do people think they have the right to do this and what are they out, am quite sure message is stay at home, that's what I am doing but now my home address is out there one very pissed off person

YANBU, that's so intrusive. I think many people are of the opinion that small business owners should always be grateful of the custom, no matter the circumstances.

FutureDuchessofHastings · 17/01/2021 17:11

That's such a stupid thing to do. See if you can get in touch with the group admin and get that post removed, along with a polite reminder about not sharing other people's personal information on there. Some people are unbelievable! I'm sorry about your mum.

So your home address has been put online and not your business address, how did the person know your home address??

Usually people direct others to a business page on social media not give out a persons home address that’s very very strange. Not seen that before.

Can you get the comment removed and also message the person saying they are not to give your personal address out?

kwiksavenofrillsusername · 17/01/2021 17:22

Get it removed and maybe put a sign on your door ‘this is not the address for X business’ and an email address or something. I can’t believe people would show up at your home. That is ridiculous.

Its two small villages they have done work for us before in our home and thought they were doing us a favour obviously not, we have a web site with contact us even have sign up on office window giving email address to contact us via that, they thought we would want the business without asking first, they thought they were helping but just giving me a load more grief

Was it a regular customer that put your address forward thinking they were you doing you a favour by passing business your way. They probably didn’t see it as a problem as you have had other customers at your door in the past.

In our village a lot have been doing a click and collect kind of service at their front doors as they have had to shut their premises.

Anyway glad you have asked them to remove it. Hopefully that should sort it. Also very sorry for your loss Flowers

It was and do not mind regular customers knowing where we live its randoms and thank you x
