I have booked a curry box from Aktar at home based on a thread this morning but looking for other ideas.
Naice restaurants who have started doing nationwide delivery food boxes please- for DH’s birthday.

Northcote at Home. You have to be quick when the slots open though.

Turnedouttoes · 17/01/2021 15:57

The bacon naan kit from Dishoom is so so good but more of a breakfast/brunch

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 17/01/2021 16:00

Do you not have any independent restaurants that you love?

My birthday last year (illegally, one day before lockdown V1 ended) I went to friends and we had curry delivered from my favourite ever restaurant and ate in the garden - it was fabulous.

Good to support local businesses - and if you know its a good restaurant, hopefully they are keeping standards up with their delivery service.

That curry box looks yum.

Following with interest. Received an email today about Tom Kerridge's Valentines Day box - looked alright but unsurprisingly expensive.

feliznavidad2 · 17/01/2021 16:03

Also think this looks good: www.lakedistrictfarmers.co.uk/boxes/all/jason-atherton-at-home-for-valentines-day but again, bit steep for me.

badpuma · 17/01/2021 16:10

Rick stein is good. Honest burger is a favourite with the children. DH and I had the Lake District farmers Jason atherton one for our wedding anniversary last year. Delicious and a lot of food. We're trying a gymkhana meal next week which is quite exciting.

We live out of deliveroo range so no one 'local' will deliver to us so we're really enjoying a lovely meal by post.

ScribblingPixie · 17/01/2021 16:11

I had a Simon Rogan (L'Enclume) one - it was delicious & very 'special occasion' but I'm in London so got the mostly cooked version; I think outside London you have to do a bit more of the cooking.

badpuma · 17/01/2021 16:12

Hame is supposed to be good, as is Hawksmoor. I haven't tried them though.

ScribblingPixie · 17/01/2021 16:12

It was £90 for two plus £10 delivery btw (the Simon Rogan one).

Does it arrive chilled and you just heat up? Or do you have to follow instructions for a few things? Only ask as I'm terrible at cooking?
RainingBatsAndFrogs · 17/01/2021 16:24

We had a fantastic takeaway from Dishoom.

I don’t think they are nationwide though.

I would look for a great local place doing takeaway.

Alfaix · 17/01/2021 16:31

None of our favourite local places are open for takeaway. We have a choice of fish and chips, Indian, Chinese, tapas or Thai, none that special. I wanted something that felt like a treat.
I might get him Rick Stein February one- £215 for a meal every weekend in February sounds quite good.

Thank you for this thread! Have just ordered Simon Rogan with wine flight and cheese! Can't wait to try it!!

scissy · 17/01/2021 17:26

Got any large towns nearby with restaurants that are doing "meals at home"? We've ordered a couple this way (for anniversaries and birthdays), you have to pick it up from the restaurant and the ones we have done just require final heating/assembly. They come with instructions like "put box A in the oven for 30 mins at 180" or "put tub E in freezer when you get home. Put contents of tub E into each bowl" etc. Unless you're a chef it'll probably not look as pretty as the restaurant but ours still tasted great.

321Bed · 17/01/2021 17:52

We had Rick Stein's fish curry meal box a few weeks ago and it was delicious. Three courses, including moules mariniere and a lovely passion fruit Eton mess too. Made all the better by adding a bottle of Stein's white burgundy - yum!

We've also had the beef Sunday roast kit from Aktar at Home which was absolutely delicious and very generous, and now we've got the curry box from the same place this evening. On first view, it looks amazing!

ShinyMe · 17/01/2021 17:58

My friend has been raving about Pasta Evangelists through lockdown.
Looks a bit pricy for me for what it is, but she loves it. pastaevangelists.com/

Turnedouttoes · 17/01/2021 18:01

I second Pasta Evangelists but more a weeknight dinner. It’s just pasta with sauce so not particularly special.
Very good pasta though, much better than Scarpetta or Nonna Tonda.

MsRinky · 17/01/2021 18:32

I had a Game Box from Lyles this weekend for my birthday, it was fabulous. I have Quality Chop house next weekend, and Aktar at Home the following weekend! My Mum has had Northcote and Black Swan boxes, and recommends them both, but I've never managed to book one before they sell out.

Pawpatrollers2021 · 17/01/2021 19:00

We’ve had:

Haar (St Andrews restaurant) - OMG amazing, we had their Best of Land and sea box twice now

Hawksmoor - meat was amazing, far better than anything you’d be able to buy in a shop, sides just so so, but we said we’d do it again and get our own additional sides next time

PE is delicious but I’m greedy when it comes to pasta and I thought the portions were small 😂

My parents are loving Cote at Home - honestly not sure whether it’s just ready meals but they assure us not.

There’s a Mexican restaurant called Remedy I think - this is next on my list, might get some tequila and get off our faces on Margaritas with it 👍🏻

"Does it arrive chilled and you just heat up? Or do you have to follow instructions for a few things? Only ask as I'm terrible at cooking?"

Sorry just seen his this. The recipe boxes we've had have involved more cooking than just heating up, but it is very very idiot proof - kind of put the contents of pot a in the pan and heat for 2 minutes then add packets b and c. Stir. When it starts to be flaky it is cooked.

Cote is pretty good as well. The huge advantage with cote is that you can more or less pick from the whole menu so everyone gets something they like (perfect for fussy children) and it all cooks in about the same time.

Shoxfordian · 17/01/2021 19:41

Haar at home seafood is really good
Banquist is good but quite a lot of work
Like Rick stein as well

NeurologicallySpeaking · 17/01/2021 20:01

We're getting Gymkhana shortly. Have heard good things about Coya. We did Patty and Bun which was surprisingly good given you have to cook the burgers etc yourself.

TodgerStrunk · 17/01/2021 20:06

Clay's Kitchen.

KihoBebiluPute · 17/01/2021 20:06

We are getting the January Banquist next weekend which is the first one I have found that is veggie friendly. Do any of these others do vegetarian? We are getting takeaway pizza every so often but proper restaurant food (even if I have to heat it up myself) is I'm a different category to takeaway.

BringBackDoves · 17/01/2021 20:10

Cote at Home is good and some of it surprisingly good value (eg beef bourgignon is big and comes with mash)

Jason Atherton was exceptionally good. Everything in little neat pots - think I laid out about 24 things in a row. More for someone who enjoys cooking I think - definitely not just stick it in the oven - but so lovely for a special occasion.

Almost Famous and Dirty Bones for burgers have been great.

And Six by Nico did a lovely Thai before Christmas- with wine - they do a different cuisine every few weeks.

I miss eating out!
