24/7 Covid in the Media

Kate139 · 15/01/2021 17:07

It's just a misery fest in this country. AIBU to think the media with its 24/7 news coverage about ruddy Covid on the TV and on the radio is irresponsible, hyping up fear and hysteria over Covid and sensationalising it?

OP posts:
wigornian · 15/01/2021 17:38

I agree-but MN revels in it!

FineWhiteBread · 15/01/2021 17:39

And then the constant posts outside of the dedicated fucking forum don’t help either.

EileenGC · 15/01/2021 17:46

I don't watch the news for this reason. My TV is used most days but not for the news. I will read news online if and when I want to.

nomorecheese · 15/01/2021 18:24

I agree. Prepare to be flamed though op. I'm sick of it.

Agree with this, some of us have hidden the Covid forum for precisely this reason.

It's not on 24/7 on every channel and I have actively avoided it as much as possible, apart from one hour watching Nicola yesterday and a quick read on the BBC News website.

LastTrainEast · 15/01/2021 19:20

I think an update once a day would be enough. I don't actually read/watch covid news more often than that.

Still there are all those people who forget about taking precautions unless you remind them hourly. I suppose they need all the help they can get.

louleey · 15/01/2021 19:24

I don’t watch the news at all for this reason, it’s been the best part of a year now, the constant fear mongering still will not penetrate the ones that don’t give a damn, and the ones that do, well it’s just too much

OppsUpsSide · 15/01/2021 19:25

Yes it wouldn’t be such an issue if it wasn’t talked about so much Hmm

Winterwoollies · 15/01/2021 20:38

You want the media to ignore the biggest story in a long time, involving a disease that is affecting every country on the globe? Ok then.

Just don’t read/watch/listen to the news if it’s affecting your mental health.

MrsDThomas · 15/01/2021 20:42

I stopped watching the news weeks ago. Sick and tired of hearing the same thing.

itsgettingweird · 15/01/2021 20:43

Agree they whip up a frenzy.

However everyone is locked won 8m not sure there is much other news currently that isn't at least covid related if it isn't covid itself!

Timbucktime · 15/01/2021 20:43

How do you hide a forum? I really want to hide the Coronavirus one

Wildswim · 15/01/2021 20:46

Totally agree. I don't watch the news. To be honest I'd kind of stopped already because of the non-stop non-news and endless speculation over Brexit, but this is even worse. It's propaganda and like living in a totalitarian state with endless preaching being blasted at you from every outlet.

Read a book instead. Far better for your mental health.

Scarlettpixie · 15/01/2021 20:48

Yeah sure. If we didn’t hear about it everything woukd be fine 🙄

You don’t have to watch it on a loop. If you just want a daily update put the 6 o clock news on or whatever. I like the 24 hour news chanel so I can catch up when I want to. There have been times when I watch a lot and others when I avoid completely. Tv is optional.

And will people please put covid posts on the ruddy covid board! People might come here for a bit of escape from all that.

Wildswim · 15/01/2021 20:48

One hour watching Nicola? Shock Like, every day? People's Republic of Scotland here we come.
