To remind you that the primary school application deadline is today?

In England, at any rate.

This afternoon I’ve had an email from my youngest DC’s nursery reminding me that the deadline for applying for a place in Reception is today, 15th January.

It’s been an unusual year, and what with all the lockdowns, no nursery this term, remote learning with my older DC and so on, the deadline had gone completely out of my head.

So here’s a last minute reminder for anyone else who has DC due to start Reception this September!

Yanbu but I am sure loads of people missed the deadline this year. It's just not on the radar when you are struggling.

In case anyone comes to the thread who has missed the deadline - this isn't a disaster. You are still entitled to a school place but you are less likely to get a place at a more distant but popular school so keep your expectations realistic . Get an application in ASAP. The allocation process includes a stage for allocating places to late applications and once places are allocated you will still have access to the appeals process if need be.

I nearly missed it myself as I heard nothing about it, I’m sure you usually get some kind of reminder? I didn’t get anything and it totally slipped my mind. I applied yesterday so hopefully we get our place as my other 3 children go there so won’t accept any other school

Givemeabreak88 if you made the deadline yesterday then surely you have a very good chance of getting the school place you want?

I also have older DC at the primary school that’s our first choice.
In my LA the oversubscription criteria only has looked after children, and children with exceptional medical needs ranked higher than siblings, so it would be very unusual for a younger sibling to not get a place at the older siblings school, provided that the application was submitted before the deadline.

Yeh that’s true, I nearly only put down that school but added a few others just in case!
