Heard rumours of restrictions being in place till winter this year.
We were thinking of setting a date for next August for around 80 people. Do you think this optimistic in terms of gatherings being allowed by then?
Not really sure what to do!

I don't think I would. I would go ahead and get married in a very small registry ceremony and then, if you really want to spend money on a party, plan something for 2022.

peak2021 · 14/01/2021 20:59

August 2022 yes, August 2021 no, because there could still be some travel restrictions (I have close family who live abroad, may be different in the OPs case).

No, I wouldn't.

Sorry not sure which August? This August, no. We've cancelled our wedding that was booked for July, but my brother lives in Japan and my sister lives in Spain. We wouldn't want them to miss it. But August 2022, I would think so. We've delaying until 2023 only because our daughter will be nearly 3 which I think is more manageable than nearly 2 Grin

That was fast work HQ Gin

Honeyroar · 14/01/2021 21:03

Only if you’re prepared to be adaptable and possibly have a much smaller wedding. It’s the perfect excuse to organise a small, intimate, less expensive wedding imo!

MardyBicardi · 14/01/2021 21:03

Sorry, 2022 yes, absolutely.
2021 nope. We are not even booking a holiday this year, until we know for sure that we won’t be majorly restricted.

SalemsPot22 · 14/01/2021 21:20

Yeah will be August 2022

I think restrictions will probably have eased by then but it’s still a gamble. Do you have to book now or could you afford to wait and see what happens to n the next few months?

Pukkatea · 14/01/2021 21:31

Mine is booked for end of April 2022. I'm being cautiously optimistic that it will happen in a reasonable form, our full list is 100 people, and we know who would be the key people if it was cut to 15/30/50. Our venue would also work for a smaller number. I really believe August 2022 will be OK.

Laufeythejust · 14/01/2021 21:32

If you haven’t booked I would wait until 2022. Our wedding is booked for June and it’s stressful having to constantly look for updates

Pukkatea · 14/01/2021 21:34

Also keep in mind that people are possibly going to start moving their spring weddings to 2022 - August is already a popular month, you may find it gets booked up very soon. It really depends on if you would be willing to go ahead with fewer than 80 if necessary.
