Post office closing early

I went to the post office yesterday to put a letter in registered post.
Post office has clearly stated its opening hours are 9-5 on a sign outside.
I got there at 4.54pm and it was closed. Door locked. and nobody appeared to be in the building. It's a small village building.
I was annoyed as I couldn't get to it any earlier and would have liked to post the letter that evening.
DP can't understand why I'm annoyed
AIBU to expect that it would be open until 5pm?

tbh, closing four minutes early is not the crime of the century. They probably had post to sort out behind the scenes.
A lot of shops don’t let people in the premises that near to closing time.
YABU.

maybe staff shortages due to covid/home schooling?
irritating that no notice up with revised hours
is it a dedicated post office, or a counter within a store?

You’re lucky. Our P/O is running COVID hrs - is open 9.30-3.30 M-F and closed on Saturday. Not exactly serving the community 🤷‍♀️

It's a dedicated post office on its own not a shop or anything.

Was 6 minutes going to be 3nough to complete the transaction?
