The Trolls in Frozen are evil

My 3year old has just discovered Frozen, and I have now watched it one too many times, and have probably over analysed it, but the trolls freak me out.

For starters, when the King mentions how he is going to lock Elsa away from everyone including Ana, the trolls say nothing - surely this is a terrible idea and feeds into the 'fear' he warns them about?!

They basically kidnap Kristoff & Sven.

Prince Hans seems to have chemistry with Ana and shows no sign of betrayal until after the trolls try to set her up with Kristoff - the song even has the line 'get the fiancé out of the way, and the whole thing will be fixed' - this seems like it could be some kind of spell they are casting..?

Up until the point they try to set Kristoff and Ana up, Kristoff is openly callous towards her and shows no signs of attraction at all.

Tell me I'm not the only one?

Also, they're just really creepy, have no boundaries, and are all too alike (lazy ness on Disney's part here I feel)

Yes! I do secretly think the trolls are the reason Hans is the villain, no sign of it before that song.

FindHungrySamurai · 12/01/2021 20:31

Nooooooo. Hans is very obviously a wrongun from the moment he meets Anna.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 12/01/2021 20:33

Oh? You think they cursed Hans? Interesting!

DaenarysStormborn · 12/01/2021 20:35

Agree with pp. Hans is clearly the villain. Look at the lyrics from 'Love is an Open Door'...

They repeat 'I found my place
I see your face'...he quite clearly is not talking about her but the land of Arendelle.

'You
And I
Were
Just
Meant to be!' I.e. he sings about her and so does she...they are not in sync.

Agree Kristin lacks chemistry with her until quite late though.

Oh and I forgot, after Kristoff's sledge crashes, he only grudgingly continues to help Ana because he wants a new sledge. He says to Sven he 'could live with that' if Ana ended up dead on her own.

yeh Hans is bad and after the throne from the start, you cant blame the trolls. Also have you seen Frozen 2 yet? They literally look after the whole of Arindalle while the main characters so their stuff. I think they are good.

ParadiseLaundry · 12/01/2021 20:49

Yes, I love this theory!

ParadiseLaundry · 12/01/2021 20:51

Although he is wearing gloves which apparently is the hallmark of a Disney Villain

scully29 · 12/01/2021 20:51

The Kristoff and Ana love story is slow to develop Because she is literally in love with Hans! Kristoff is just so honest and true of heart he doesnt think he can win her heart, he doesnt even imagine it till late in their friendship.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 12/01/2021 20:54

Kristoff nails it in F2 when he grabs Anna when she is on a mission and just says "what do you need?"

Can tell a woman directed it.

scully29 · 12/01/2021 21:00

Yeh Kristoffs 'lost in the woods' is just so epic, its a love story that really develops beautifully in Frozen 2, Im hoping for the wedding in Frozen 3.

PodgeBod · 12/01/2021 21:03

They basically kidnap Kristoff & Sven

I was really hoping for Kristoffs backstory in Frozen 2

Nonamesavail · 12/01/2021 21:05

I love lost in the woods!

RubaiyatOfAnyone · 12/01/2021 21:11

I don’t love the song, but when he responds to Anna apologising for going off an adventure without stopping to consult him or hold herself back because of him with “My love is not fragile” I forgave him a lot.

B33Fr33 · 12/01/2021 21:16

Lost in the woods had me rolling about in laughter. Such a great parody of boy band ballads. I love the humour in Frozen.

Hans is always a wrong un.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 12/01/2021 21:24

If you have Disney Plus, I highly recommend the making of Frozen 2 (not sure what the actual series name is). It's very very good.

SquishySquirmy · 12/01/2021 21:24

I thought the whole point of Kristoff and Anna's relationship is that it ISN'T "love at first sight"? Because deciding you are in love with someone within 5 minutes of meeting them, and getting engaged later that day is a terrible idea.
Hans and Anna are "in love" when they don't know each other at all. Anna doesn't love him - she loves the idea of a fairytale version of being "in love" with a perfect prince.
Kristoff is a great guy, but not perfect and the relationship develops over time. Much more realistic portrayal of love.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 12/01/2021 21:28

The real love story in the movies is one of sisterly love. The men are just additions to the main plot. It's refreshing.

ButwhereisMYcoffee · 12/01/2021 21:28

I think the chemistry is there from the off!

Skysblue · 12/01/2021 21:30

I thought that too OP! In the first film it’s the trolls who basically say that Elsa has to suppress her magic and feelings etc. Messed up and causes loads of avoidable problems later. And the way they ‘keep’ kristoff is creepy, presumably he was an orphan but it’d have been nice to have been a bit clearer on all that.

Could actually do both films without any trollsand I think they’d be better for it.

apalledandshocked · 12/01/2021 21:32

There are loads of red flags about Hans right from the start. He basically love bombs Ana. And he's the one to lead the "quick we must hunt her down" spiel when Elsa legs it.

Yes, pretty much a rip off of the minions - a sea of similar faces!
