School setting work on tiktok

Afolnerd · 12/01/2021 11:05

We don’t let dd 13 have tiktok or Snapchat etc due to her being very naive and posting and adding inappropriate things/strangers in the past.
She has a cognitive Impairment which affects her judgment in situations. Dd kind of understands why but at the same time hates that she doesn’t get to use them. She has fb and WhatsApp which I closely monitor.

School have decided to set pe homework on tiktok. ie copy this dance/exercise etc.
Obviously dd is now saying she has to have it and I’m not happy.

Aibu to still say no and tell the school she won’t be doing it.

@Afolnerd You are definitely not being unreasonable. Maybe ask for alternative work for PE? Smile

Thedarknightsaredrawingin · 12/01/2021 11:10

I would contact the school as it’s an in appropriate platform for children.

BluePeterVag · 12/01/2021 11:11

I agree with you. This is an inappropriate way to set work.

Legitimacy · 12/01/2021 11:12

100% YANBU tiktok has no relevance whatsoever

LemonBreeland · 12/01/2021 11:12

That is poor thinking on behalf of the school. I imagine that they are probably setting this for younger DC too, who shouldn't be on Tik Tok anyway. I can see the thought behind it that it may make PE more fun, but I would not be happy about this either. Surely they could have done their own version of the dance and posted it elsewhere.

charliespie · 12/01/2021 11:19

Honestly, I can't emphasise enough how awful TikTok is. There is some seriously inappropriate content on there and I'm surprised any school deme this acceptable. I would be contacting the safeguarding lead about this to see what they have to say. And that's by no means a joke.

BadTattoosAndSmellLikeBooze · 12/01/2021 11:22

Is this real?
Completely inappropriate. I imagine the PE teacher hasn’t thought this through at all. I’m sure they’ll soon have lots of parents complaining and it’ll be stopped very soon.

LadyTmalia · 12/01/2021 11:29

Can you find the video on YouTube instead?

I hate TikTok, I don't want my children using it either :(

movingonup20 · 12/01/2021 11:32

Just inform the school what you have said here and that you are using Joe Wicks for pe/getting fit together

Afolnerd · 12/01/2021 11:38

Thanks
Completely real unfortunately. I have been so impressed with the school so far but this seems like a massive lapse in judgement.
Dd is currently stropping in her room as I have said no it’s not happening.
Tbh I’m not that worried about getting different PE work as she spends most of her day dancing in her room anyway. I’m happy that she gets plenty of exercise.
Ds is 17 and he has told me some of the awful stuff he has seen on tiktok.

Yanbu I’m shocked the school would want them to use tiktok for pe I’m an adult even I don’t have tiktok I’ve read too many stories about all the dodgy people on tiktok I wouldn’t let any child of mine have it.
