I was wondering if anyone else has had the same experience as me. I have had many pets around me in my life but there has always been one pet in particular that I just vibe with on a different level. I think of her as my soulmate in a way, we understand each other that well. Do other people have one pet in particular that they are just so in sync with?

Well I do think we have some pets who fit our personalities better than others, but in truth I have probably had a few dogs who strike me as soulmates - my teenage best pal, and my current male.
My boy & I do seem attuned and his understanding of what I want is amazing likewise I am pretty attuned to him health & well being wise, which my vet has commented on,
We spend inordinate amounts of time together.

BayandBlonde · 08/01/2021 19:30

Sometimes.....I thought a particular horse of mine was my soulmate, then it kicked me in the head. So maybe not Grin

nameschanges · 08/01/2021 19:31

It is so lovely when you develop a special bond with an animal. My poor girl was abused and abandoned before I adopted her and seeing the way she trusts me now means so much. I, too, spend ridiculous amounts of time with her now, much more than pre-Covid. She has enjoyed it very much lol.

It becomes terrifying to think of a life without them. I would always be heartbroken to lose a pet, but losing an animal you're so close to is like losing a sibling

Imissmoominmama · 08/01/2021 19:32

My cat is my soulmate. He’s getting frail now, and the thought of losing him terrifies me.

StillMedusa · 08/01/2021 19:32

Yes.
I've had several cats and currently also have dog whom I adore. But my soulmate was Morpheus my Maine Coon boy cat. My huge beautiful boy gave love to everyone he met but he was my soulmate, and slept every night spooning me with his huge paws round my neck. I loved him and him me in a way that will never be replicated and I miss him every day.. 6 years since he died.
This is the last photo of him, the day before he was pts (cancer) with dd2. I will always have cats and dogs and love them dearly, but he was special.

Definitely, I agree with you. I always have at least one or two of mine with that very special, deeper bond.

RagamuffinCat · 08/01/2021 19:34

Yes. I love all my cats, but one I have a different sort of bond with.

ShinyMe · 08/01/2021 19:34

My mum's dog, a little Jack Russell, absolutely ADORES me, for no discernible reason. I see her for a week or so at a time, months apart, and she climbs walls and wets herself with excitement when I arrive, and then sticks with me every second of the time I'm there - on my lap, wanting to be carried, following me to the loo, sleeping with me, licking my feet, pressing her ear into my mouth for hours at a time... it's embarrassing! She's lovely, and she loves my parents too, but her adoration of me is extraordinary. If she hasn't seen me for a while and my parents say my name, she gets all quivery and squeaky.

patchworkthedog · 08/01/2021 19:39

@StillMedusa I am so sorry about Morpheus, he looks like such a lovely boy. They always take a part of your heart with them when they go. It makes you so grateful to have had them in your life.

I swear my girl understands me better than anyone on the planet other than my mum, she is such a bright and joyful girl. I worry all the time about something happening to her as she has Calici disease from being in an unhealthy environment when she was rescued. Not a day goes by that I am not overjoyed by her being silly with a laser pointer

@ShinyMe that is so lovely! I think pets are acutely aware of who they vibe with

Yep, this gorgeous horse is definitely my soul mate. I have had her nearly 15 years, I trust her with my life and I dread the day she leaves me.

Yes I have a cat who can literally read my mind. I love her so much. I try not to think of what will happen when she goes and just focus on the here and now, and how happy we make each other.

Lily193 · 08/01/2021 19:45

My first rescue was my absolute soulmate and supported me after the death of mum. He was the most loving, caring dog you could ever find. I still cry whenever I think of him.

patchworkthedog · 08/01/2021 19:49

That is a beautiful horse.

It is not even that the animals in question are particular friendly - my mum has a real grump of a rescue dog who will give the side-eye to anyone and everyone, but sticks to her side like glue and they both adore each other.

I've had lots of cats I've loved over the years too, but my current cat is my handsome boy and I've never known a cat like him for cuddling. I don't think he's attached to me though, I think if I died he'd happily eat me and move in with the lady next door. But he does like to sit with his paw on my face, and he does like to spoon at night.

SilverStarburst · 08/01/2021 19:55

Yes, totally agree. Had a horse for many years from childhood, he knew all my woes and secrets and I slept in his stable when he fell ill.
Now have a wonderful dog who is 9 and have had since a pup, we have a great bond and I swear he knows when I am ill or down. Have had other cats and dogs but I love him more than the rest, as much as I love any other family member.

DartmoorDoughnut · 08/01/2021 19:57

I lost my soul dog in November last year, still have our other dog and our cat and I love them but he was a part of me and I miss him constantly.

Hoppinggreen · 08/01/2021 20:01

Yes, I call her my Heart Cat. I hand reared her from 3 weeks when she was abandoned and I absolutely adored her. She was by my side at all times and when DD was born dcat loved her too (was never too fussed about DH) and she’s in most of the baby photos . We joke she was even in them before DD was born as she used to sit on my bump and purr.
I was devastated when she died and 10 years later I was still welling up writing this.

Thank you for this thread OP. I love all my animals but some are definitely very special indeed.

My heart dog died almost exactly four years ago. We had a bond that was near telepathic and I miss her terribly still and always will. She was nearly 18. I don't believe in ghosts but I still 'see' her bounding across the field and through the trees. Whenever I see someone with a little black cross breed dog, perhaps going a bit grey around the face, I always like to give the dog's ears a scruffle in memory of her. I adored her and she me. Her ashes are on the mantelpiece and I shall have them in my coffin.

One of my cats is the same, in féline form. He spoons me in bed, pats my cheek and will hold out his paw if requested ( usually 😼). He is a bit of a local celebrity but won't say more for outing myself. He is the most friendly, vocal, confident and tactile cat I've ever known. I practically worship him which is of course as it should be!

MiddleClassProblem · 08/01/2021 20:55

Yes, mine died a few years ago. We had a very special synergy a d could respond to each other in an unsaid way. I have had dogs before and have one now who over lapped with her. None have been the same. I think people are very lucky to have that soul mate bond whether it’s with and animal or a human. I think it’s something quite unique and you only know it for sure if you have had it and a lot of people don’t. Not to say they don’t have very special bonds though.

Wellthisismorethanabitgrim · 08/01/2021 20:58

I've only had one dog, and I love her so much I can't imagine ever loving another one the same. She's such little character, so loving and sensitive, had a bad background before she came to us and we can see how much it"s taken for her to trust us. Personality wise she's so similar to me and DH it feels like she was made to be with us (I know that's redic btw!).

Dashel · 08/01/2021 21:06

I have had three cats, two rabbits and two hamsters over the years. My second cat was my soul mate and when he was run over it broke me in a way I never thought possible. I miss him every day and feel like a part of me is still missing 6 years later. We moved house from a quiet road to a road that is in the middle of nowhere and the road safety was the top priority so that our current cat is safe.
