To have told my in-laws that they’ll have what they’re given and like it?

Right,

So, talking with in-laws On FaceTime who are in the age category for the first round of Covid vaccinations... and convo went like this...

DH- have you heard about vaccinations yet?
FIL- Not yet, but when they call I’ll tell them it must be the Oxford one as I don’t want a foreign vaccine!
DH- I don’t think you get a choice...
MIL- They will for your father dear, he can be quite insistent...
DH- Confused
ME- ummm, no, you’ll be offered a vaccine, you among millions are waiting for these vaccines and you think you have the right to be picky?! You’ll take what they offer you and like it! Angry
MIL- promptly bursts into tears “why is she being mean to meeeeeeee”

DH thinks I’m being unreasonable as I’ve had enough of his rule flouting, idiotic, entitled. argumentative parents and I’ve finally snapped and put them in their place...

(Those of you who followed my sons journey will
Understand my snappy attitude towards them)

Ps- the daily mail and any journos can piss off too....

Why not just smile and nod, no need to always be known to be right. You know you're right, isn't that enough?

Hoppinggreen · 08/01/2021 15:47

Why do you even engage with them?
They sound annoying, I would just let your DH speak to them on his own.
And the Oxford one is actually from Forrin as well I believe

Agree with this, Don't engage, he will get what he's given whether you want to get into a debate with him about it or not.
Coldilox · 08/01/2021 15:47

After everything with your son I am amazed you still speak to them at all.

GoJetterGirl · 08/01/2021 15:47

Read my previous threads and you’ll understand why my patience is remarkably short when it comes to these idiots.

To be honest, having read your previous posts, I am amazed you still speak to them. Can you not just disengage entirely and leave your DH to deal with them?

user1493494961 · 08/01/2021 15:48

An article in a similar vein appeared in yesterday's Mail, so it's old news now I'm afraid.

Aquamarine1029 · 08/01/2021 15:49

Why are you involving yourself in their affairs? Leave your husband to deal with it.

growinggreyer · 08/01/2021 15:50

But it is the patient's right to choose what is put into their body - or do you no longer believe in consent and bodily autonomy? Everyone can choose whether they want this vaccination or whether they want to wait.

GoJetterGirl · 08/01/2021 15:51

They sound annoying, I would just let your DH speak to them on his own.

I’m working from home, DH is furloughed, he was literally walking around chatting on FaceTime and strolled into our office to retrieve something when I was working...

SparklePiggy · 08/01/2021 15:51

Why were you involving yourself in the conversation?

It's all a bit tedious thriving off the drama.

FlibbertyGiblets · 08/01/2021 15:52

Oh gosh sorry, we're meant to know every detail of your life, as documented in detail on MN, what a failure I am. Apologies.

MooseBeTimeForSummer · 08/01/2021 15:54

A quick Google suggests the Oxford vaccine is made in India ....

NuniaBeeswax · 08/01/2021 15:54

This sounds like a "oh will you ok" and nod politely situation.

Sparklingbrook · 08/01/2021 15:54

There appears to be a back story we know nothing about...

The Oxford one is in association with Astra Zeneca whose HQ is in Cambridge.
GoJetterGirl · 08/01/2021 15:55

I’ll admit to being less than happy that DH still engages with them, however, they’re his parents...

They know they will not be welcome anywhere near our house and child if they don’t get the vaccine as both DH and I have conditions listed under CEV,

They FaceTime at least twice a day to talk with DS aged 2, I tend to decamp to the office regardless of if I’m working or not when they call,

As for being picky, I get they can choose what goes into their body, but I didn’t see them panicking about it being a “foreign vaccine” when it was the only vaccine available and MIL tried to use their private health insurance to access a vaccine first claiming she could buy it!

LaurieFairyCake · 08/01/2021 15:56

Yeah, you MUST tell them the "Oxford" vaccine is made in India

I've been happily telling the odd racist this ...

unmarkedbythat · 08/01/2021 15:57

They sound ridiculous. I'd have laughed at them.

Alexandernevermind · 08/01/2021 15:58

Based on what you have told us here YABU. Just roll your eyes and move the topic on, no need to bite. You can't demand people search for your previous family dramas to get context.

Throckmorton · 08/01/2021 15:59

In the nicest possibly way, why on earth are you still speaking to these utter arseholes?! Your DH needs to refresh himself on the back-catalogue and realise that even if you were being unreasonable on this one, you have every right given what they've done in the past!

Also, it's really nice to see you again; I've been thinking of you.

GoJetterGirl · 08/01/2021 16:01

You can't demand people search for your previous family dramas to get context.

Not asking anyone to, but I’ll put it into context for you now,

My child was dying of cancer, in-laws made every step of that journey about them, even trying to overtake and dictate his funeral arrangements when he passed away in February last year... I’ve not been in the same room as them in a very long time, but even I have no right to kee their remaining grandchild and their some communicating with them...

OP posts:
itsgettingweird · 08/01/2021 16:01

I have read some posts about your Ds but not about PIL.

I'm sure emotions are high.

But you really have got to disengage for your own MH.

Just take a deep breath and count to ten and pretend you can't hear them. Plenty of older people have very fixed ideas on things and the way they word things isn't PC for 2021.

And tell your DH when he's chatting to them he's banned from the room as you don't want to hear them!

Purpletomato · 08/01/2021 16:01

I honestly don't understand why either of you have anything to do with them after what they've put you through.

AndcalloffChristmas · 08/01/2021 16:03

They’re not the first older people I’ve heard of talking about which they’d prefer. I’d love any vaccine and so should they!
